Minor Details: Games of 8/4

A bad game for Liam Hendriks.  A worse game for Trevor May.  Byron Buxton returns to the lineup, but Miguel Sano does not.

SYRACUSE 5, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Parmelee was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Eduardo Escobar was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Jeff Clement was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  A. J. Achter struck out for in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits but three walks.  Luis Perdomo gave up one hit and no walks in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Jhonatan Solano was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice.  Chris Marrero was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Jeff Mandel pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The score was tied at two.  In the top of the inning, two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two out and Eury Perez hit a three-run triple to put the Chiefs ahead 5-2.  In the bottom of the inning, two walks and a Parmelee double made it 5-3 and a ground out cut the lead to 5-4.  The tying run was on third, but a fly out ended the threat.  The Red Wings did not get the tying run to third again.

Prospect watch:  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-5.  Liam Hendriks pitched 5.1 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

ERIE 9, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Jordan Parraz was 3-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his ninth), driving in three.  Dan Rohlfing was 3-for-5 with an RBI.  Evan Bigley was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Cole Johnson struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched 1.1 perfect innings with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Fields was 3-for-6 with a run and three RBIs.  Marcus Lemon was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Eugenio Suarez was 2-for-6 with a run and four RBIs.

Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, the SeaWolves tallied five times.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two out.  Suarez delivered a two-run single and stole second.  Fields delivered another two-run single and Ramon Cabrera got an RBI single to make it 5-0.

Prospect watch:  Wilkin Ramirez, on a rehab assignment, was 1-for-5.  Trevor May pitched only 2.2 innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits and five walks with three strikeouts.

TAMPA 7, FORT MYERS 6 IN TAMPA

Batting stars:  Jairo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-5 and scored once.  J. D. Williams was 1-for-2 with three walks, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Nelvin Fuentes pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Rigoberto Arrebato struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk.  Ben Gamel was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Tampa trailed 6-3.  The Yankees opened the inning with two singles and a passed ball.  Al Castillo doubled in two.  Gamel singled to tie the score.  A strikeout and a walk put the winning run into scoring position with one out.  Gamel then stole third and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton returned to the lineup and was 0-for-2 with three walks, scoring once.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Mike Kvasnicka was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, QUAD CITIES 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting star:  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios pitched six innings, giving up one run despite five hits and six walks with three strikeouts.  Brandon Bixler pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one run on one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Brian Holmes pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Carlos Correa was 3-for-5 with an RBI.  Danry Vasquez was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The score was tied at one.  In the top of the inning, Teoscar Hernandez led off with a double, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a Correa single to give the River Bandits a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom half, two singles and an error tied the score and put the winning run on third.  With two out, Joel Licon singled in the winning run.

Prospect watch:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk.

JOHNSON CITY 7, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Stuart Turner was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Zach Granite was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  Austin Malinowski pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Alexander Reyes pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  J. J. Altobelli was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Vaughn Bryan was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Cardinals led 3-0.  In the top of the inning, the Twins opened with a walk, a double, and a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1, but could do no further damage.  In the bottom half, three singles and an error plated three more for Johnson City and put the game out of reach.

Prospect watch:  Dereck Rodriguez was 0-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Felix Jorge struck out five in five innings but gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits and no walks.
