Friday Music Day: Summer’s Over, 2013

Towards my embarassment, I partially answer nibbish's challenge from the Tuesday gamelog:

Stop, drop, KABOOM!, baby time for some victuals.
Some call me Lutefisk, some call me "stink that wiggles".
Far from simple, make ya German friends giggle.
Get 'em under control, with taste that makes your tummy tickle
Jell-O jiggles, My scent makes your nose wrinkle.
But with a little Gjetost, I'll make ya mouth dribble.

I stopped it there because it was getting really lame.

Anyway, please share ten random songs from your music device or service.
Or take the Ludafisk challenge yourself!

  2. Very strange list today. A bunch of songs off the various Live Current albums and a bunch of performers I've seen live. The National is on both lists. Son Volt is the only song on neither. Tomorrow night will be the sixth time Sheenie and I will have caught Macklemore in concert.

  3. I like how you made it Ludafisk instead of Lutefisk. That acutally a pretty good translation, given the restrictions on subject matter.

    1. Thanks.

      Chorus:

(Whachu doing?) Drinking coffee at the Holiday Inn!
(Who you with?) All of the reg'lars, I count some as my friends.
(What we gon' do?) Nothin' partic'lar, just like ev'ry mornin'.
We get free refills, and we like complainin'.

I had most of that in my head before I started. Not sure why a song about retirees drinking coffee at a small town hotel restaurant has a verse sung by ethnic food, but whatever.

    2. A bonus self-mashup of the whole Limbo album that was available at Pitchfork.
    4. In my opinion, the best gol-dang Dutch Dub album you're gonna find.
    5. I find the vocals a bit distracting, I wonder if I could find an instrumental.
    T. EAR loves this version of this song. I'm trying it out. I think it might be a cooler if the song was "Floors":

When all of your floors and all of my floors,
are laid out one by one,
A wonderful part of the mess that we made,
    We pick ourselves undone,
    ...
You have always worn your floors upon your sleeve,
And I have always buried them deep beneath the ground,
Dig them up, let's finish what we've started,
Dig them up, so nothing's left unturned.
When all of your floors and all of my floors are counted...
When all of your floors and all of my floors are counted...

Yeah, now that'd be vivid songwriting. Or maybe i'm just too much of a homeowner who wants to ditch the carpeting.

    4. I don't know that any lyrics have ever infuriated me more. "But it was not my fault but yours." You shouldn't use "but" twice in a sentence like that!
    6. This one seemed kind of neat. Might get old fast, but I liked it. I'm a sucker for horns though.
    8. This album is 9 years old? Yikes.
    10. Rilo Kiley has been coming up a lot in my Pandora. I knew I loved 'em, but lately they've easily been among my absolute favorites.

    10. Bleeding Rainbow - "Pink Ruff" from Yeah Right

BT. Juicy J ft. A$AP Rocky - "Scholarship" from Stay Trippy

The Juicy J album is getting a pretty large amount of recognition. I've seen people ask "what rap is coming to" in response to the album. Look, I'm not gonna say Juicy J is the most uh... high brow of artists but it's not like this is a big change from the stuff he's been doing his entire career. I mean "Slob on My Knob" came out in 1999.

One more thing: The new TV Ghost album is currently streaming on their SoundCloud. It comes out on Tuesday, and it's really really great. It's very goth-y and it is a sound that works well for them. I loved their last two albums and it doesn't look like their third is going to disappoint.

  12. 1. "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" - The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
