September 8, 2013: Church Outside

We get to have church outside today.  Near a playground.  And I think there will be a petting zoo set up too.  I'm confident that my children will sit perfectly still for the entire service.

  1. Also, my kids haven't been sleeping much lately (no naps, both waking up in the middle of the night every few hours, etc.), so this is gonna be great!

    1. We had church outside earlier this year, and it went really well. My personal opinion is that if the kids want to run around, that's part of what an outdoor service is for.

  2. Last night was a late one at work, but this one will be much worse - it's product inventory, where a team of us scan every single item in the store. At least I get to wear street clothes.

  3. I had a reverent experience yesterday afternoon. After watching both of my kids playing in a jazz combo, I went with my buddy The Music Man to this place for their one-year anniversary event. We were there opening weekend, so it seems only right that we would come back for the anniversary event.

Excellent saison, rye IPA, double IPA, IPA, and english mild. Live music, good conversation, food vendors. If you have an excuse to be in the Davisville area, make plans to stop in Winters.

  4. I'll take any thoughts/prayers you can spare for my MiL. She's in the final stage of a losing battle with cancer. On her way to the mailbox this morning to get the paper, she fell and broke her femur. In her present condition, there isn't much they can do for her.

    1. It is very hard to know that someone you love is dying and there's nothing you can do about it. She and all of you are in our prayers.

    2. Dr. Chop's mom quite suddenly passed away several years ago. It's rough to lose an in law at any time, but especially hard when they're young. Sorry, man.

    3. Very much appreciated fellas. They decided to try to insert a pin to alleviate some of the pain. Even if she makes it through the surgery, she very likely won't ever walk again. In either case, she won't be returning to the house my wife grew up in. Not sure there's a good way to leave one's home of nearly 40 years - but a stretcher is certainly near the bottom of the list.

      1. IIRC, Steve McNair was murdered by a significant other. Samantha Steele married Christian Ponder last year. Amiright?

        1. McNair was killed by his girlfriend (murder/suicide) when he was still married to another woman.

      1. Her reply was to clarify: so, what you are saying is that I should murder my husband because you don't like the way he plays a game that you watch on TV.

        1. And I really liked her reply - it's just been making me sad lately that players and waives of players have to deal with that sort of thing. I, too, would like to see the Vikings get a better quarterback, I would just prefer to leave out the heaping spoonful of classless idiocy while I wait for the to happen.

            vs.

            ?

  5. ESPN Sunday Night Baseball has the Dodger and Reds and Dusty Baker is not starting Billy Hamilton. BOOOO

      1. I hope the Reds make the playoffs and Billy Hamilton gets Frankie Rodriguez'd onto the playoff roster

                1. Nah, you're thinking of Herb Washington. U L (no periods) actually played in the field.

  6. in downtown SF for conference doings. fancy hotel, but lots of 49ers an Los Gigantes paraphernalia. hopefully I get outa town before the Giants game finishes.

    1. Answer: a resounding "no". I spent an hour going about six blocks to get onto the Bay Bridge. Awesomesauce.
