Fall Festival: Games of 10/8

Six Twins played.  Two games were decided by one run.  One game wasn't decided at all.

MESA 8, GLENDALE 8 IN GLENDALE (11 INNINGS)

TwinsByron Buxton was 1-for-6 with a run and an RBI.  Max Kepler was 1-for-6 with a double and scored once.  Alex Meyer started and pitched three innings, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Trevor May pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  A. J. Achter pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.  Zach Jones pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up five runs on five hits and one walk with no strikeouts.

Mesa:  Matt Skole (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, and three RBIs.  Kris Bryant (Cubs) was 3-for-6 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.

Glendale:  Yorman Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 3-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring three times and driving in two.

The game:  Mesa scored three in the second to take a 3-1 lead.  Glendale tied it in the third and built a 7-3 lead after six.  Mesa scored five in the eighth to go up 8-7.  Marcus Semien (White Sox) hit an RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth to tie it.  Both teams got a runner to second with two out in the tenth.  The game was called after eleven innings.

SURPRISE 7, PEORIA 6 IN SURPRISE

Peoria:  Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

Surprise:  Mitch Haniger (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in four.  Henry Urrutia (Baltimore) was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Miguel Pena (Boston) started and pitched three perfect innings with one strikeout.

The game:  Surprise scored two in the first and led 3-0 after three.  Peoria tied it at three in the top of the sixth, but Surprise came back with four in the bottom of the sixth.  Peoria scored one in the seventh and two in the eighth to cut it to 7-6.  In the ninth, Peoria got the tying run to second with none out and to third with two out, but that was all.

SCOTTSDALE 6, SALT RIVER 5 IN SALT RIVER

Scottsdale:  Kyle Kubitza (Atlanta) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Tyler Austin (Yankees) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Salt River:  Kenny Wilson (Toronto) was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Kyle Parker (Colorado) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer.

The game:  Salt River scored three in the third to take a 4-1 lead.  It was 5-3 after six and stayed that way until the ninth.  The first four batters reached base for Scottsdale in the ninth, with a double by Tommy La Stella (Atlanta) driving in the go-ahead run.

    1. I wanted to add that doing a Google Image Search on "Selig shrug" generates an amazing diversity of shots of him shrugging.
