Mexican Matchups: Games of 10/13

No Twins, but some really exciting games in the Mexican League.

OBREGON 8, MEXICALI 5 IN MEXICALI (12 INNINGS)

Obregon:  Doug Clark was 3-for-5 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once.  Sergio Contreras was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Giovanny Gallegos (Yankees) pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Mexicali:  Ricky Alvarez was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.  Xorge Carrillo (Mets) was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Kevin Kouzmanoff (Miami) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

The game:  Alvarez hit a two-run single to cap a Mexicali three-run rally in the seventh, giving Mexicali a 5-4 lead.  Doubles by Jose Figueroa (Yankees) and Contreras tied the score in the ninth.  In the twelfth, in the twelfth, a double, an error, and an intentional walk loaded the bases for Obregon.  Karim Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to put Obregon in front and Iker Franco doubled in two insurance runs.

GUASAVE 8, LOS MOCHIS 7 IN GUASAVE

Los Mochis:  Jesus Avila was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Brian Burgamy was 0-for-1 with three walks and scored once.

Guasave:  Ivan Araujo was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Zelous Wheeler (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Mark Hamilton (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, scoring twice.

The game:  Los Mochis scored five in the top of the first, but Guasave came back with four in the bottom of the first.  Los Mochis went ahead 7-4 in the third, but Guasave tied it at seven in the fourth.  In the fifth, Araujo and Jose Felix (Texas) led off with singles for Guasave, and a double play brought in the go-ahead run.  Los Mochis only got one man on base after that, a Burgamy walk with one out in the seventh.

HERMOSILLO 3, NAVAJOA 1 IN HERMOSILLO

Navajoa:  Rolando Acosta was 3-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Jose Oyervidez pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Yunesky Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Barry Enright (Angels) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Hermosillo took a 2-1 lead in the second on a single, two walks, and a force out.  Navajoa loaded the bases with three no-out singles in the seventh, but did not score.  Hermosillo got an insurance run in the eighth on a Sanchez home run.

MAZATLAN 6, CULIACAN 5 IN CULIACAN

Mazatlan:  Issmael Salas was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Jose Orozco had a pinch-hit two-run homer.  Yadel Marti pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Culiacan:  Refugio Cervantes was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Matt Angle was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.  Amauri Sanit pitched 7.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Culiacan led 3-0 after seven.  Orozco hit a two-run homer in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2, but Culiacan got the runs back in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run homer by Mario Valdez.  In the top of the ninth, a hit batsman and an error put runners on second and third with none out.  Bryan Petersen made it 5-4 with a two-run single and with two out, Salas hit a two-run homer to put Mazatlan ahead 6-5.  Culiacan got the tying run on first with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but he was erased on a caught stealing.
