Cold weather running

Got out and did a 10-mile run this morning w/ the temps at 31F.  I tried some gear changes per this marathoner at my running store and they worked out great.

I used to run with a runners baseball cap with an embedded sweat band.  This morning, I used this sweat-wicking head band by Bondi Band.  Two immediate benefits:  it absorbs a ton of sweat, and you can periodically take it off and wrench out the sweat; it also allows heat to escape out of the top of your head.

Also, instead of running with cold-weather running pants over my shorts, which restrict the stride and also holds in moisture, I just ran with my running shorts, and wore compression tights which cover from the knee to the ankle.  It really worked out great.

NBBW saw a T-shirt the other day:

Let's eat grandma.

Let's eat, grandma.

Commas save lives.

Florida State (2) at Wake today at 12EST.  Go Noles!

  1. Off to Angels Camp for a CC race this morning. Not "cold" weather. High of 75 predicted today.

  2. My outside running is probably coming to a close for the season. I just don't have the right outdoor gear and I'm not in a position to be able to go buy it.

  3. I'm about to go out and do my long run in the cold. I've sort of waited all morning for it to warm up. It's up to 48 now, which is pretty nice. The plan is to do at least 11 and hopefully 12, which would be my longest since the Rock n' Roll Half I did in DC in April. After today, I'll taper a bit and get ready for the Annapolis half two weeks from today!

    1. Got to 11.5, which was pretty good. I wore a long sleeve shirt over a short sleeve shirt and probably should have ditched it when I returned to my car at the end of miles 4 or 8. Still, I'm very happy with this run and am feeling good about my race in two weeks!

  4. My knee has been a little stiff so I think I am going to take the weekend off.

I don't mind the cold but running in wind sucks.

  5. Back from Camptown Races, doo dah, doo dah. The Girl's season is over. It was a "good run". Now she's showering up for a jazz gig.
