SSS November 9th Open Thread

I figured why not? Great news is that I found out my uncle's cable provider (Xfinity) has Premier League onDemand, so I get to watch Fulham get the shit kicked out of them by Liverpool even though Chelsea-West Brom is on. And if both of those games go South quickly, I have 3 more matches to chose from. It's amazing to me to think about how just 3 years ago I could barely get a game on TV, and now I can literally watch any match I want.

And don't forget the MLS Cup Playoffs are in full swing. Today is SKC at Houston (2:30/1:30 Central on NBC). SKC sure did take their sweet-ass time overcoming the 2-1 deficit from the first leg v. the Revs, but boy am I glad they did. And Houston knocked out Community Shield winners NYRB, keeping NYRB/MetroStars's perfect record of no MLS Cups in tact, a fact I'm very much in favor of. Tomorrow at 9/8C on ESPN, Portland travels to RSL. RSL overcame a 1-0 first leg deficit to eliminate the Cup holders LA Galaxy. Portland won both legs of their NW Derby with Seattle to advance 5-3.

  1. I'm fulling expecting Fulham to lose by at least 3-0. All I'm asking is that Sturridge do the scoring (and not Suarez) so at least my fantasy team gets some points.

OG, Skrtel, and Suarez. GD Fulham can't even lose properly.

  2. West Brom really should be up 1-0, but Chelsea scored because a West Brom defender was an idiot

    OMG BROM

    1. With how tired and short-handed Houston was KC has to be a little disappointed not to have a lead. On the other hand, given Houston's history against KC in the playoffs, KC is probably happy not to be behind.

      1. I completely agree. SKC probably should have gotten one, but 0-0 on the away first leg isn't too bad a start. And away goals are not a tiebreaker in MLS Cup playoffs, so that doesn't come into play.

  3. nice defensive stand by Sunderland in the last 15 minutes or so
I really thought the refs would blow a phantom whistle to allow a tied game.

  4. USWMT vs. Brazil at 3:30 should be a good game. I didn't realize it was today, but it's on my viewing list now.

      1. She's a triple threat - she seems like a very nice person (at least from her interview on Men in Blazers), highly talented, and to top it off, yes she's very pretty.

  5. That went from 0-0 to 2-0 in about 2 minutes.

Comparing the US Men and Womens national teams is difficult largely because of the relative levels of competition, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that Abby Wambach may be the best American soccer player ever.

    1. Does "Put the ball on net and good things'll happen" translate as "throw it at the wall and see what sticks"? Either way, your participation is appreciated and you're always such a good sport. It's a pleasure to have you, Padre.
