Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/13

Russell Branyan continues to excel for Mexicali.  Mazatlan plays Earl Weaver baseball.

MEXICALI 6, OBREGON 3 IN OBREGON

Mexicali:  Russell Branyan was 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Chris Roberson was 2-for-4 with a run.

Obregon:  Agustin Murillo was 3-for-4 with a run.  Sergio Contreras was 2-for-4 with a home run.

The game:  Mexicali got three singles, a double, a walk, and a wild pitch to score three runs in the fifth and take a 5-2 lead.  Obregon got one back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but Mexicali scored on another wild pitch in the seventh to go up 6-3.  Obregon got the tying run up to bat with two out in the ninth.

NAVOJOA 6, CULIACAN 2 IN CULIACAN

Navojoa:  Luis Fonseca was 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer (his fourth), scoring twice.  Fernando Flores was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Jose Oyervidez pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Culiacan:  Ali Solis was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Luis Cruz was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Daniel Rodriguez (Atlanta) pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Fonseca hit a two-run homer in the fifth to put Navojoa ahead 3-1.  They still led 4-2 going to the ninth and got a two-run homer by Jose Chavez to put the game out of reach.

HERMOSILLO 6, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Hermosillo:  Edgar Quintero was 2-for-4 with two home runs, his second and third, and four RBIs.  Luis Borges was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Juan Oramas (San Diego) pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Los Mochis:  Emmanuel Avila was 2-for-4.

The game:  Hermosillo scored single runs in the first and second and then got a three-run homer by Quintero to go up 5-0 in the sixth.  Los Mochis scored both of its runs in the ninth.

MAZATLAN 7, GUASAVE 1 IN MAZATLAN

Guasave:  Mark Hamilton was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once.

Mazatlan:  Oswaldo Morejon was 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer (his third), scoring twice.  Walter Ibarra was 2-for-4. Alejandro Martinez pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Bryan Petersen hit a three-run homer in the first and Morejon hit one in the second to put Mazatlan ahead 6-0 after two.  Guasave got its lone run in the seventh.
