Suck it up, Boyo!

The wife got me a RoadID ankle bracelet as a gift, and along with your vitals you can add an inspirational motto.  Suck it up, Boyo!

Nice weather (54F) for running this morning - got out with my running club and did an 11 mile run - this week's total was 27.75 miles.  Only one real cold run this week (Tuesday) where it was snowing a little bit with some wind.

My WGOM Fitness product endorsement this week is Tea Tree Oil.  Nasty smelling stuff, but it works great to apply to your feet in advance of running to avoid blisters, or to help them heal more quickly.

Florida State (2) against Syracuse today at 3:30EST.  Go Noles!

  1. I have one of those bracelets too. I tell my wife it won't stop me from getting hit by a bus, it will just mean that the authorities will know who to call sooner. My slogan is:

    It's a journey not a race.

  2. I stepped on a scale this morning for the first time in many weeks. 206. Not as bad as I feared, but not good. I'm hoping to kick my own butt on Wednesday, just so I get in something, since none of the other days look good for it. Another first step, that kind of thing.

  3. colonoscopy tomorrow. I start the gallon of Colon Blow early this afternoon. So I may be more scatological than normal around here.

    1. I had my annual checkup this morning and will have to bite the bullet and get the colonoscopy done soon as the doctor was pretty insistent. Should get the blood panel results online tomorrow, but everything else looks good (touch wood).

      1. I had some blood work done for a life insurance policy - only one thing out of whack...what the hell is a triglyceride?!

      1. So, I'm back. The procedure, as widely noted by other veterans of the look-see around here have suggested, was painless and easy. They puff your colon up with air, so I'll be tooting my own horn for a while longer, and I'm a bit drowsy and (perhaps moreso than normal) loopy, but mostly fine.

I strongly urge all of the Citizens who are in or approaching their 50s to get a colonoscopy scheduled at an appropriate time. Colorectal cancer afflicts men and women equally (in 2010, 67,700 men and 63,900 women were diagnosed nation-wide; over 52,000 Americans died from it that year, evenly split again between men and women. It is the third-most prevalent cancer among both men and women, and doesn't particularly discriminate across ethnicities.

Low-fiber, high-fat diets, obesity, smoking, and heavy alcohol consumption are all important risk factors (following family history and certain inherited syndromes).

Smaller, localized polyps in the colon, which can be cancerous or pre-cancerous, typically are removed during the procedure (luckily for me, the doctor didn't find any polyps -- I'm free for the next decade). Early detection is critical. Get 'r dun.

        1. Good for you pallo! An inspiration to all.

I had some tests done by my doctor when I did the 50-check-in. All clear.

  4. Thanks to all for not tasing me on the Jameis Winston fracas. Zoinks, Scoob!

The police report is heavily redacted and does not identify Winston. The victim described the alleged attacker as between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11 and 240 pounds. Winston is listed at 6-foot-4 and 228 pounds.

  5. I'm going to try reducing the meat in my diet and upping my veggie intake. I'm thinking vegetarian during the week, meat only on weekends (probably defined Friday after work-bedtime Sunday). Got a nice big veggie medley made up for work tomorrow - sweet potato, kale, spinach, tomato, corn w/ poblano, bell pepper, and chopped walnuts.

    1. Texturized vegetable protein tacos tonite - not bad. Used yoghurt instead of sour cream also.

      1. back during a WGOM spookymilk survivor challenge, we had to provide an alias for prince fielder if he was a rapper. i believe i pitched "the notorious TVP", which no one got.
