Monkey brain

Long run (18mi) this morning, but it was warm out (29F) and sunny.  Supposed to get up to 45 today here in H'istan.  Balmy.

I was out on Thursday after  work doing a short run, in the dark of course, but it was very cold with a wind chill.  While I was getting my stuff ready, the house hadn't heated back up yet, and so I was already cold  when I left the house, and it seemed to take longer for me to heat up from running.

I remember back when I was doing Bikram yoga, one of the instructor's talked about monkey brain, that inner voice that keeps you from concentrating on something.  So a ways out from the house:

Monkey brain:   Man it's cold out here.  A mile's enough - turnaround dude, you're gonna freeze.  You didn't wear enough layers.

Me:  Go away.

MB:  Are you kidding me, your hands are freezing, you should have worn a stocking cap instead of the head band - you're gonna catch pneumonia.  Besides, you don't really need 3 miles, you need to recover for this weekend.  What about that blister?

Me:  Foul beast, leave me.  (I finished my 5K and I didn't die of freezing).

  1. I got to play some footy this morning. It was so great to get out and play a sport again.
