    1. I'm about there myself. I think the playoffs are dead at this point and now that there's olympic curling going on, I have something else to occupy my sports mind.

          1. If you want an early kick start on quality hockey, tomorrow morning has USA-Canada womens match. I think its live on NBCSN

      1. Playoffs?

        Cue Jim Mora.

Three things we learned this year: Kevin Love deserved his max contract. Pekovic deserved what he got. Rubio does not deserve a max deal.

A fourth thing: you can never have too many perimeter shooters.

          1. He's really caught between a rock and a hard place on Rubio vs. JJ. Rubio's shooting is Just. So. Awful. Where you gonna get scoring from the second unit? How much should the second unit play?

The other night, I thought he erred leaving Rubio on the bench for the first 8+ minutes of the 4th as JJ and company wasted a big lead. But when Love isn't hitting from outside and with no Pek, the Wolves really struggle to score in the half court with Rubio on the floor.

            1. But he also seems to be trying to limit where Rubio can actually impact the game by not letting him play a bit more free. It seems clear to me that, even with the garbage second unit, the offense works better with Rubio on the floor than with JJ, even when JJ is scoring. He can't score every possession, but when he should be running the offense, he's still trying to get his.

            2. Rubio gets players easy shots, which makes it so others don't have to be hitting from the outside. JJ is going to score because he keeps chucking it at the basket, so something is going to hit. The Wolves are just better with Rubio running the offense. He sees everything so well.

    2. The Wolves broke me years ago. I haven't been emotionally invested in this franchise since KG. Foye for Roy, Brewer, Flynn, Jefferson's knee, Johnson, Caged Lion, Rubio's knee, Kevin's hand, Kevin's contract, Pek's injuries, Shabazz/Gorgui for Burke...just too much for a casual NBA fan to endure. I can't imagine how hard it's been on those of you with some true love of the professional game.

      1. Its funny, Im not a huge NBA fan (since all national games involve the Lakers or Knicks, I find it hard to tune into a game) but love the Timberwolves. Been watching or following the team since Pooh Richardson and Tony Campbell.
So yeah, this year is disappointing. but I will watch because Kevin Love and baseball season is not in full swing.

        1. Those first two years were all kinds of awesome. Those teams never, ever gave up. Bill Musselman would have killed anyone who did. Until last year's 31 win campaign, no non-KG team had ever surpassed the 29 wins of that second year. And then they fired Musselman for winning too much. Winning too much has not been a problem since.

          1. Random but related, with 200 games coached, Rick Adelman is the second longest serving bench boss in Wolves history. His .405 win% is only fourth best (Saunders, Casey, McHale)

    3. There is probably going to be some major movement for the Wolves this offseason. If they want to keep Love, they're going to have to find some reason to convince him to stay. I'm not sure what, if anything, that could be. If they lose Love...well, at least they'll get salary cap room!

      1. Make him the next KG. Have him pick the coach. Bring in a Troy Hudson equivalent. Back a Brinks truck or three to his door.

        1. do you have any reason to think he wouldn't pick Adelman? Rick lets Love do whatever he wants out there (including playing almost no defense).

            1. suffering through the last couple of seasons' worth of injuries and draft picks would age any coach prematurely. But Adelman only turns 68 this June.

                1. Yeah, the health issues thing is what makes me think he'll retire. I certainly wouldn't oppose to letting him have his way with the organization. I think there would be a number of good coaches who would want to come work with him, too.

    1. It does look similar. Inspecting the HTML, it appears to be different. It does appear to be a WordPress site, but the theme is either custom or heavily modified.

  1. The good - A girl I like mentioned she was curious about how curling works, and now we're going curling next weekend.
The bad - She texted jokingly saying she's not sure she has the "patients" to curl.

The urge to text back "patience*" was nearly overwhelming.

        1. She could have been so excited about the prospect of talking to you that she momentarily lost her grasp on her ability to write clearly.

(In other words, losing interest based on this would steer you into Elaine Benes territory.)

Riiigghhhttt.... I usually do have that effect on women. 🙂

It's really not a big deal, I just have to not be...well, myself so much.

  2. OK Citizens, I just signed a lease yesterday. I should be settled into my own place in the next week or so hopefully. With space to Skype in peace in and quiet, WGOM radio will be re-revived very soon. Email or comment if you would either a) like a BKAC or b) want to have some sort of other episode go out.

    1. The way NBC has handled its Olympic coverage on its various cable channels has been alternately infuriating and confusing.

      1. Agreed and disagreed. NBCSN has shown live figure skating (which seems like a good move) and ski jumping (ok?), but then airs tape delayed and heavily edited curling. CNBC is showing infomercials overnight, why not stick live curling there? USA is running another Law and Order SVU marathon, stick some sports there.

I realize NBC wants to load up the NBCSN schedule to help people be aware the channel exists, but by not airing as many sporting events live on as many channels as possible seems silly.

    2. You'd figure ManU-Arsenal should get the prime slot. (Edit: Oops, that's tomorrow. This game actually looks like the best one on today.)

If When Fulham get the absolute shit stomped out of them tomorrow, I can only hope Suarez does all the scoring.

    1. 9-3. I'll watch it for a few minutes anyway since this is the first Olympics programming I've seen, period.

  3. Should Miguel Sano break camp? This writer says no because of the whole Super2 thing.
I disagree. If Sano belongs, he belongs. If Sano becomes a star, his rookie contract is more than likely going to get ripped up and he gets paid, rendering the Super2 status moot.

    1. I think Sano would have to be incredible in training camp to be on the Twins roster at the start of the season.

    2. Huh, I didn't realize the Super-2 designation was quite that nebulous. There's a (slightly more than zero) chance a team could wait until July to call a prospect up and he'd still qualify as one of the top 22%.

Otherwise, bleah. I wanna see Sano obliterate some baseballs and get yelled at for flipping his bat. Bring him up if he's ready.

    3. I think Baseball Outsider's Edward Thoma made a fair point about how cancer treatment might combine with Terry Ryan's conservative approach to delay Sano's arrival:

Still, having Ryan out of the picture this spring (assuming he's not in Florida at all for training camp) does not figure to benefit the team. I would think, for one thing, that it sharply reduces the chances of a "bold" decision this spring -- such as deciding that Miguel Sano is ready for the show now. Sano is not, and was not, likely to come out of camp with the third base job, but it it were to happen, Ryan would have to be enthusiastically on board. That's unlikely if he's not there to monitor the situation.

I forget who here suggested I read Thoma's blog, but he's helping me enjoy reading about the Twins on the internet again.
