March 4, 2014: ReOrg

A bunch of folks in my company - mostly middle management - lost their jobs yesterday as part of a restructuring. There may have been some fat to cut, but I like everyone we're losing.

If I'd gotten the promotion I almost got a few months ago, I'd have lost my job yesterday.

  1. Good thing you got passed over then, Spooks!
(BTW, it looks like Garth Brooks is the Prince* of country. Nothing on youtube. You can figure which song I was going to put here.
    *Rogers Nelson)

When I saw the news about your corp, I was wondering whether it'd hit you directly.

    1. Garth has very few music videos. He said he always wanted his music to tell his stories and let his fans interpret the songs how they wanted. Not sure why there isn't more of his songs just up to listen to. Perhaps his C&D lawyer is vigilant

        Just like Prince

    2. One of my favorite quotes (don't remember who said it) is "You will never know what worse luck your bad luck may have saved you from."

  2. After LBJ's 61 point effort last night, I looked up Wilt Chamberlain's stats. In 1962, the year he averaged 50 points a game, he averaged 39.5 shots and 17 free throws a game. So, yeah, he wasn't all that efficient.

    1. for his career, Wilt shot a higher FG pct than FT pct. 1961-62 happened to be his career-high season for FT pct. He was only second in the league in FG pct, though. Loser.

      1. I think the truly amazing thing about Wilt's '61-62 campaign was his minutes per game: 48.5. That's right, he averaged more minutes played per game than the length of a regulation game!

    2. Mike & Mike said Chamberlain had 32 games of sixty or more points. That's more than everyone else who has ever played in the NBA, combined.

        1. Elgin Baylor scored 63 points in a game where he shot 41.8%. That's volume shooting.

          1. Where did you find the game stats? the 63-pt game appears to have been a triple-OT affair on Dec. 8, 1961, but basketball-ref doesn't have game logs before 1963-4.

            1. from DW's link. He scored 63 points on 55 shots and 24 free throws. A TS% of 48.0. Not too good.

              1. league FG pct that season was 41.5 (8642 FGA/team) and FT pct was 73.3 (2952 FTA/team). I calculate league TS% of 46.94.

                1. So, a little better than average, but still not too good. The high point total was a function of volume more than efficiency.

  3. Reading about Buxton, and... uh-oh:

In terms of composure, they have compared him to Twins star Joe Mauer.

Another bland, composed superstar in the clubhouse? Heads be ass-ploding.

    1. Man that 4th of July game against Brazil was huge. I remember Brazil getting the red card and we all thought this was our chance.

So did the announcer. I can't remember his name but he wasn't very soccer savvy and he was incredelous that the U.S. couldn't take advantage a man up, asking the color guy (who was a soccer player) why couldn't the U.S. score with man advantage? I always maintained that after the Brazil red card he thought that this was going to be his Al Michaels "Do You Believe in Miracles Yes!" moment and was more disappointed that his announcing career wasn't going to advance than the fact that the U.S. was going to be eliminated from the World Cup.
