  1. The good news: I was just invited back to Ireland for a residency for six weeks.
The bad news: My boss has a hard time allowing me to take two consecutive days off.
The not so bad news: The director has a history of supporting individual professional development even if it's not directly in line with the institution's mission statement.
The rub: I'll have to go over my direct supervisor's head to get what I want. I'm certain he'll be pissed off, but this is too good an opportunity for him to dismiss out of hand.

    1. Congrats on the invitation - and good luck with getting the time to make it happen.

  2. So driving on 94 the other day I hit a ladder. A ladder! In the middle of the freeway. I'm lucky there was no damage.

I was on my way with a client to Ramsey District Court. The judge was...something. He told one guy he couldn't carry any weapons, including anything that looks like a gun like squirt guns or funny clown balloons that look like guns. He then told another guy if he violated his probation he was going to be "really pissed off." I imagine if that's true, the judge is probably never happy.

      1. that's crazy. Up until this point in my life I had never seen either. Though I remember once I watched a driver's safety video and it was "What to do if you see a mattress in your lane."

        1. Once, headed north out of San Diego on the 5, I encountered a couch straddling the #1 lane. It must have been there only a minute or so, because the traffic was still doing 70+ right up until we had to swerve around it.

          1. Saw a person get their car stuck by driving over a mattress in the road. She managed to get the stuck up in between her tire and the wheel well and she couldn't go anywhere.

            1. I've heard the advice is to tap the brakes just before hitting the mattress in order to hit it as the front is going back up on the rebound, hopefully taking it right on under.

  3. So, cold this morning after a couple of nice days. Get to the office and a woman says to me, "I really feel spring in the air today." I said, I felt it more yesterday when it was 40 degrees. She says, yeah, the temperature, you got me there, but the sun is coming up so early now. I smiled and said, yep and got my coffee.

We just had daylight savings time. The sun is coming up an hour later this week than last week. It's 15 degrees outside. Okay.

    1. Well, compared to a couple of weeks ago...

The end of my driveway is a slushy nightmare. I think I need a better snowblower.

      1. I was pretty excited by the melt this week. My sidewalk and driveway are clear, most of my roof is clear and the snowpack has shrunk a fair amount. The north half of our street is clear, too. Much, much better than last spring already.

        1. I'm hoping it goes more slowly this year so the ground has more tome to soak up the melt. Our soul could use all the help it can get.

          1. Our soul could use all the help it can get

I know my soul can always use a little help.

    2. I only WISH it felt like spring. Typical St. Louis to go from 82 yesterday to 35 today. Just can't seem to sit at 60's for any length of time.

Aaaand the piece of siding is loose (again) near the peak of the house.

  4. So it's not really related to anything, but I was cleaning up the house and ran across these:

      1. Don't want to rain on the parade and say those aren't worth a lot, but don't make any plans for the money you'd make on them. They're still fun to go through, though

        1. Oh, I have no illusions about that. These made it into the save bin because I have a lot of fond memories sorting these and this time was really my introduction to baseball.

          1. Likewise. I could probably get $50 to $100 for everything I got, with most of that coming from a few cards, including one 1970s rare NFL card

      2. Ah, that is nostalgia.

I need to go find mine sometime and pore over names that mean nothing to me but for the three or four years that I spent obsessed with baseball cards.

That reminds me, im about due for my yearly pack.

        1. Yep. I just restored rpz's comment, as otherwise it would require reparenting all of the replies.

        2. That was my bad. I tried to delete the comment with the broken link early this morning, then when it wasn't going, I figured I should at least fix the image, then the comment was deleted. Half bakef, I tell ya.

      3. Score or Post!l!! I have a ton of both.

        1. thanks to both of you. I always enjoy seeing these kinds of endorsements from trusted Citizens.

  6. Get out of our way old dude, the Bison are a'stampeedin'

  7. The Wild had a 3 goal lead against a woeful Edmonton (second worst team in the NHL with only 54 points) and got a point with a OT/SO loss. They are still the clubhouse leader for a Wild Card spot (this year, the NHL tweaked its playoff format by taking a Division champ, then the next two top Division teams, then 2 Wild Card teams determined by the top leftover Conference teams), 3 clear of Dallas but only 4 clear of dropping out of the playoffs. There is no way the Wild are going to catch Colorado for a division spot because they have a whopping 89 points.

    1. I figured 3 goals was enough...I was wrong. This team goes from almost costing Yeo his job, to something like 9-2-2, back to this crapola. The sky's not falling, but they'd better figure out their lines/chemistry in a hurry or they're in trouble.

      1. Is Kuemper showing rookieitis? That last goal he allowed was a bit embarrassing, though the defense was nowhere to be found either

        1. That was definitely a bad goal.

Despite all of the fawning over the Parise/Granlund/Pominville line by the TV crew last night, they were on the ice for both goals against in the third.

          1. Gross too because (far as I can tell) that's the only line didn't get tampered with after the Koivu return/trade deadline.

  8. I'm heading out to the Lagunitas party in a bit. They're debuting a new brew and have all their others as well, and all for free*.

*Well, they have my email address, so not free free, but no cash involved.

  9. Okay, taking it easy on you this time around...

ID the AU -- put a name to the Twins player (current or former) with this John Doe:

      1. Maybe Mayo can get a huge billboard on the side of Target Center just to taunt the baseball club.

    1. I'm generally willing to give the pitchers more of a pass than the hitters, because I don't doubt that they are approaching hitters differently and working on their weaker pitches. If someone starts walking everyone, I'd probably be a little more concerned.

        1. I am not fighting the world on this--the sun rises in the east, the sky is blue, and Twins pitchers won't get many strikeouts. My expectations have been set and I'll be happy if they are exceeded.

          1. But Oliver can still dream of another little piece of chicken in his broth sometimes.

I didn't say anything about Runs Against, but that's a made up stat.

  10. Aaron Hicks with a HR! May have been wind aided because the CFer was running around in circles like he lost the ball.

    1. Kudos again to the graphics folks. I must admit that when the banners first came along, I was quietly skeptical. I soon realized that my skepticism was misplaced. The new format with the new pictures every day is fun. Well done, boyos!

      1. Mostly agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing a few retired this season – I'd rather not be reminded of Nishi anymore, for instance.

        1. Agree. On the other hand, it's easy for me to say it, since I'm not the one who's going to go to the effort of doing it.

          1. Retiring banners is quick work. Of course, now that I say this I realize I'm on the hook to put up two more. When hungry joe's around, simply adding banners is a full-time job.

    1. That is great. Definitely more the way I'd want mine to be written than the standard style.

      1. I shared it with my parents, suggesting it be a model. They both enjoyed, and agreed as long as they get to read a near-finished draft before the thing is actually needed.

  11. All of a sudden, chrome is asking me to log in to the wgom with my (default) google account, even though I am already logged in (with my not-google login here) on my phone. Is it me, or did sean change something? Happens every time I reload.

    1. I've had this happen with chrome for android lately too, I think its asking to remember your login info, but I hit no and I only see it once in a while.
