April 2, 2014: Sweet Relief

The Milkmaid cut open my finger last night to get at the ingrown nail and to release the pus that had built up, causing insane pressure and pain I wouldn't have seen coming. I had a small glass of whiskey for liquid courage - my first hard liquor in over a year and a half. I think I earned that one.

  1. My extra special bonus prediction in the 2014 predictions is two games closer to coming true. (AMR bait!)

  2. It was absolutely wretched basketball to watch, but this block in last night's NIT game is pretty sweet.

    1. The Gophers started with roar, but yeah - wretched pretty well describes the rest of the game (officiating and play-by-play included).

    2. yea, that play was great.

Dare I say it, but the Goofs really missed Eliason last night. And if Mo Walker had any hops at all, he'd be an NBA prospect. He's a load down low, but sooooo sloooow.

      1. Oto Osenieks played 32 minutes on his bum knee because of Eliason's injury. They had already said he was done for this year and next. That was inspiring. I didn't catch the first half, but the ESPN guys didn't ever mention it. Too bad Malik Smith choked at the line and forced them to go to OT.

    1. Finger pain stories!

I broke my finger in college. Never went and got it checked out #studyyousissies until six months later when it still wasn't healed. In fact, it was worse. Pus under the nail, extreme pain when any pressure was applied to it. Turns out the infection had gotten into the bone. Surgery to repair it led to an incision in the side of my finger that had to be packed with fresh gauze every day in order to make sure the infection didn't come back (also had some IV antibiotics I had to self-administer - my pre-med roommate decided to major in political science shortly after all this).

That unpacking and repacking of the incision was the worst pain I have ever experienced. I've had a sheltered realtively injury-free life, but holy crap, that was something. The first time it was unpacking the gauze they had packed while I was unconscious, that stuff was way down in there. My dad still apologizes to me for having to pull that stuff out.

  3. Not to have been missed from yesterday:

  4. This is fantastic. I don't care if he's English, Sir Ian is a national treasure

    1. Thats fantastic. hahah.

Speaking of soccer, i was watching the ManU-Bayern match yesterday and while I usually enjoy Gus Johnson, he is awful at calling a soccer match.

    1. I feel proud to have gotten it.

  5. You never know with kids. Trey has been pretty much his Little League team's MVP so far, but he finally had a bad game last night. He made two errors on the only two times he fielded the ball and couldn't find the strike zone when he pitched. And yet, his Mets team beat the Rays, who had won 6-0 last time the teams played. At the plate, Trey struck out on coach's pitch the first time, and so with everything having gone wrong for him all game, he hit his first home run leading off the bottom of the fourth. The Mets were actually trailing 8-6 after the Rays scored 5 runs in the top of the fourth because of Trey's wildness, but after Trey scored, the game was called due to time limit, which meant the score reverted back to the last full inning, which gave the Mets the 6-3 win. After Trey came into the dugout after his HR, I was expecting him to be all excited, but he started crying because he was out of breath. You never know with 8-year-olds. Technically, Trey's HR didn't count, but I'll never tell him that.

    1. I remember some games lost because of that rule when I was his age. It burned me. Once I hit 10-12 age, the fields had lights, so games were only called due to weather (or the mercy rule)

  6. I forgot my password to a website for job application, and I forgot my answer to "Your favorite song" as my security question. Bollocks.

      1. Right, I assumed I would have put "Everlong" down, but I guess I didn't.

Eventually it asked me for my Dad's middle name, so I got in. I should update that other question, though.

  7. Just noticed that at 1130pm, the Cubs and Pirates are tied at 3 in the 15th inning. Pittsburgh only has 5 hits, but 9 walks!
