Minor Details: Games of May 11

No offense for Rochester.  Lots of offense for New Britain.  A fine game for Matthew Summers.

TOLEDO 7, ROCHESTER O IN TOLEDO

Batting stars:  None.

Pitching star:  A. J. Achter pitched three shutout innings, giving up no runs on no hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Hernan Perez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  James McCann was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Derek Hankins pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Toledo scored five in the first inning and the game was pretty much over right there.  In the inning, they had three singles, a double, a walk, and an error.  The Mud Hens added single runs in the third and eighth.  Rochester did not get a man on base until two were out in the fifth.  The only time they got a man on second was the seventh, when Deibinson Romero singled and took second on a wild pitch.

Of note:  Eric Farris was 1-for-4.  Chris Herrmann was 0-forr-4.  Romero was 1-for-3.  Wilkin Ramirez was 1-for-3.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-3.  Rochester had only three hits, all singles.  Starter Logan Darnell struck out four in four innings, but gave up six runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks.

NEW BRITAIN 11, BOWIE 1 IN BOWIE

Batting stars:  Tony Thomas was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his fourth) and a walk, scoring three times.  Corey Wimberly was 2-for-4 with a double and two walks, scoring three times and driving in one.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Matthew Summers struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks.  Daniel Turpen pitched a perfect inning.  Lester Oliveros pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Sharlon Schoop was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  David Adams was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

The game:  Two-run singles by Daniel Ortiz and Kennys Vargas put New Britain on top 4-0 in the third.  They added single runs in the fourth and fifth and Thomas hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put the game away.

Of note:  Ortiz was 2-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.  Vargas was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
