Minor Details: Games of May 12

Rochester's offense remains missing.  A big night for Aderlin Mejia.  Good starts for Matt Tomshaw and Kris Johnson.

TOLEDO 2, ROCHESTER 1 IN TOLEDO

Batting stars:  Eric Farris was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  Kris Johnson struck out five in 5.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and four walks.  Ryan Pressly struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Ben Guez was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  James McCann was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Duane Below pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  Arcia got a leadoff double in the second, but Rochester could not bring him around.  There was no score until the fourth, when McCann walked and scored on a Jordan Lennerton double.  The Red Wings also wasted leadoff doubles in the sixth and seventh, one by Farris and the other by Wilkin Ramirez.  Rochester got yet another leadoff double in the eighth, this time by Eric Fryer, and this time a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly brought him home to tie the game.  In the ninth, though, Guez got a leadoff double, went to third on an error, and scored on Brandon Douglas' single to win the game.

Of note:  Deibinson Romero was 0-for-3.  Chris Herrmann was 0-for-4.

FORT MYERS 8, BREVARD COUNTY 2 IN BREVARD COUNTY

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.  Stuart Turner was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk, scoring twice.  John Murphy was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Matt Tomshaw pitched six shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Brian Gilbert struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Tyrone Taylor was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Orlando Arcia was 2-for-5 with a double.  Nick Delmoncio was 2-for-4 with a double.

The game:  RBI singles by Murphy and Mejia gave Fort Myers a 2-0 lead in the second.  In the sixth, a two-run double by Tyler Grimes and a Turner two-run homer made it 6-0 and effectively put the game away.  Each team scored two in the eighth, with Mejia hitting a two-run homer in the top of the inning and Taylor a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Mike Gonzales was 0-for-5.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.
