    1. I was planning one, but my 5th image only had something that looked more like a teacup than a coffee cup, so I discarded the idea.

  1. SBNation Longform has an interesting article about pitching velocity and placement. Made me think why the Twins havent contacted this guy because they seem to preach a form of his philosophy. (Dont have to throw hard, hit your spots)

          1. but that on-field interview...how many times can you ask a guy how "special" this performance was? Oy. Where's FJM when you need it?

              1. It was special. He knew something special was happening when he started to feel special.

  2. As I've mentioned elsewhere, my adopted home town and first parish of Wessington Springs had a tornado go through yesterday, doing substantial damage to the town. Meanwhile, my second parish, North Sioux City/McCook Lake/Dakota Dunes, is going to be flooded. Your prayers in both instances would be appreciated.

    1. We've had a parade of kid illnesses (some of which they've been so kind as to share with us) and can't help but protest that this is supposed to be the time of year (what, May to mid-September?) we don't have to deal with colds and flu. We're considering a quarantine at the cabin.

        1. Yeah, we had that one. Slowed me down for a while. Tough on the little girls. Lots of coughing and lost sleep for a while. Nebulizers, antibiotics, ibuprophen...all the things we avoid when possible.

      1. We're in the same boat. Usually we do get somewhat of a break over the summer months, but we haven't gotten much of one so far.

    2. I've noticed that a few times when I've been super-crazy busy, it seems almost like the adrenalin will keep a bug at bay: I can tell I have the same thing that wife/kids/coworkers had but not so bad.
But as soon as my schedule lets up, the bug hits full force.

Caveat: plural of anecdotes is not data. This could just be coincidence and selective memory.

      1. I notice when I go through a lot of stress that I tend to get sick right after that. However, I tend to believe that I caught the bug while I was stressed and the symptoms didn't show up until after. I think adrenalin will help mask symptoms for short periods, which is why you see athletes put up good performances at times while sick.

  3. Now that we know the Patent Office can revoke derogatory trademarks, I understand why the new Washington baseball team wasn't called the "Senators".

  4. Bhiggs, send me an email at shores002 at (:ya hoo:) I'm interested in your file to knife project....

    1. I've spent the last two days looking through old tweets, emails and YouTube viewing histories trying to find this sweet knife making video I saw about a year ago and I cannot find it. It's not super vital I share it, but the fact I can't find it is really pissing me off.

    1. I didn't realize that was from the Onion.
They should make a Slate-style parody site.

  5. Well, yesterday was certainly one I will not forget.

Pun kid #5 was born yesterday afternoon. 9lbs. 9oz. Mom and baby are doing fine.
We had an unexpected homebirth. With all our others, we had been induced, and usually a week or two before the due date. This time, we wanted to try to go natural, and let it happen without inducing and without pain medication. Turns out that the "false" labor that my wife was feeling at around 4 am was really the start of the real deal. I ended up going to work because she didn't think it was any big deal. I called her every hour, and it was always the same, "I'm fine for another hour" Finally, about 12:20 she called and wanted me to come home to run interference with the other kids;. They were getting on her nerves. En route to home (12:41 to be exact), she called me to tell me her water broke. I called my mom so that she could pick up the kids ASAP.

I get home and she's in labor. My mom get's the kids out and drives off as we head to the van.

We didn't make it to the van. Instead, my wife informs me that the head is out.

I rush back inside and call 9-1-1. The lady on the other line tells me enough to help deliver the baby. At a couple minutes after 1 pm. I deliver a healthy baby girl. On my kitchen floor.

The paramedics come and help us get situated and ready to go to the hospital. Mom and baby are great and everyone's doing well. I'm still just in awe of it all. I've been there for the birth of the other 4, but I've never been the ONLY other one there when the baby comes out. Just... wow.

      1. Carefully, you might get sick when the adrenaline wears off...

Amazing job, to both you and your wife. Congrats.

    1. Wow. Good thing it happened on the fifth and not the first. That might have been too much shock.
Congrats on the kid. I think you now lead the "WGOM-lings" pool with five points.

    2. Congratulations, but holy cow! That is crazy. "The head is out." I can just imagine.

You can have the pool. We've got our hockey team.

    3. First of all, congrats! Second of all, I can say with confidence that my wife would be quite jealous of yours. She wanted to have a home birth very badly, but it wasn't in the cards due to her blood pressure when she was pregnant. She was able to deliver the trinket naturally, but her BP with the bauble turned into pre-eclampsia so she had to be induced which ended up with the epidural.

      1. We weren't planning for a home birth. It's funny to look back at our birth plan and see all these things that we had set out to do and how much of it was thrown out of the window in lieu of God's plan.

    4. Wow, congratulations to you and especially to your wife! Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

    5. That is an Awesome delivery story* - Congratulations!

      *considering everything went well

  6. Anyone else accidentally ended up at WOGM.org? I wonder how many of their parishioners have ended up here confused as all get out.

  7. I see twitter is all aflutter about Arcia not being in the lineup for a second straight day.
He is in an awful slump and Parms had a nice day yesterday. I see nothing wrong with Arcia getting a couple days breather.

    1. I mean, I know Arcia is the future and should get as many at bats as possible, but he is in a 10 games, 2-32 (.063/.231/.094 /.325) funk.

      1. His funk also started when he sprained his ankle. I know he's not 100% because you never are that quickly after an ankle sprain. He can use the extra time to heal up more.

        1. Yeah. And I dont think this is a case were he is in Gardy's doghouse (Ive heard too many interviews were Gardy is gushing over Arcia), but as I said a time to sit back and collect his thoughts and yeah heal up a little.

    1. Well I spent way too long on #20.
I had a solution I liked that the computer didn't. Not sure if I was wrong by pixels or the computer was wrong by rounding.
I think it was equivalent to the same solution I finally got to work (while peeking at others solutions because I wanted to sleep.
