June 21, 2014: The Return of Weekends

Four more days in this eight-day work stretch. I haven't gotten one of these in a while. On the upside, it seems we're back to making sure everyone gets a "weekend" at some point in the week. I'm very much in favor of that.

  1. Aaron Hicks: .198/.338/.262/.600 OPS+70
    Sam Fuld : .211/.269/.310/.579 OPS+61

    1. Might as well finish this out:

      ben revere: .280/.297/.333/631/+75
      DSPAN2: .271/.316/.399/.716/+97
      ii: .266/.290/.441/.732/+97
      Gogo: .316/.381/.539/.920/+151

        1. Its just kind of funny how many twins CFs there are around the league. Maybe we should get Cuddy back and send him out there.

      1. hell Danny Santana as a CFer (20 less PA than Fuld): .300 /.354 /.367 /.721 OPS+101

          1. With the player on the roster now, where does Double E and Santana fit? Plouffe gets his job back when he comes off the DL. Escobar is not going to usurp Dozier. So it comes down to SS and I think we all know how that ends.

            1. Right. I meant that more long term. But I agree with you about the likely outcome.

  2. After our discussion about pocket knives, and CH's link to the friction folder he carries, I decided to delve into turning my old files into some knife blades. The googleing led me to sugar creek forge, and his friction folding knife build along project. Kit ordered, and now to wait for the supplies to come in the mail.

        1. His video explaining says you need minimal tools, and he provides a cheap solution for a "bar" vice.

The build together will ensure I'll start and finish this project.

  3. I'm getting pretty burnt out on Kevin Love trade talks, so I don't know why I'm even writing this. That said, considering the rumors I've seen, my opinion that they should just stop entertaining offers and just keep him one more year is stronger. He'll be forced to play as good as he can regardless which will provide a good chance to make the playoffs and, if he acts like an ii all year, I'll feel better about the emotional response to dislike him when he leaves.

    1. The thing about the GSW rumors is that the players make no sense. Why would the Wolves want David Lee when they have Pek on the roster?

          1. It means 30 million over the next two seasons for a homeless man's Kevin Love. 18 and 9 with horrible defensive metrics for a slow, unatheletic guy on the wrong side of 30. He also made zero threes in 69 games last year. In other words, the antithesis of a stretch 4.

            1. I'm not enthusiastic about David Lee as a cornerstone to a Love package either, but this seems a bit...overboard.

Lee comes across as slow and unathletic, yet he still pulls down about 4 ORB and 10-11 DRB per 100 possessions, while shooting well over 50 pct from the floor and 78 pct from the line (shooting ~4-5 FTA/g). He's kind of gangly and has stupid hair, but he runs the floor very well.

Is he a defensive stopper? No, not exactly, although basketball-reference sees him as pretty much indistinguishable from Love on defense overall.

Obviously, he's not a "stretch 4". But he has a decent game facing the basket and can still get to the rim and can still finish at the rim. For how much longer, I dunno. But he was All-NBA 3rd team in 2012-13, so it's not like he's been a bench scrub for years.

  4. It is a glorious june day at the park in norcal. Listening to the girl and her jazz combo playing. 2nd-ever gig. Not embarrassing.

  5. Trey's all-star team played the first of what they hope is seven straight days of elimination games. They won by mercy rule, 12-2 in 5 innings. After the defensive miscues of the first game, Trey was moved from the OF to pitcher (defense only since this is a pitching machine tourney) and made one nice play and dropped a short popup, but looked pretty good. He also played one inning at second and one inning in the OF. His coaches did a better job of moving kids around to give more kids opportunities in the infield. Not sure if this was because of the weaker competition or just a new strategy after the loss in the first game. Trey didn't hit the ball out of the infield, but put it in play both times and drove in two runs. He reached on a fielder's choice when they went for a forceout at second but dropped the ball, and he had an RBI groundout with the bases loaded.

  6. werd to Magoo: the Eagles played a "friendly" (?? is that a valid term in rugby) yesterday here in Sactown vs. Team Canada. Couldn't go because of other commitments, but it was a sell-out, and a victory for the U.S., breaking a long losing streak to the Lost Northern States.
