Minor Details: Games of June 23

New Britain's winning streak is snapped at eleven.  Jose Berrios is dominant again.  Eddie Rosario continues to hit.

BUFFALO 4, ROCHESTER 2 IN BUFFALO

Batting stars:  Chris Rahl was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Edgar Ibarra pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  A. J. Achter pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Adron Chambers was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs.  Andy LaRoche was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two RBIs.  Esmil Rogers pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Brad Glenn singled in a run in the first, LaRoche hit a homer in the second, and a Chambers homer and a LaRoche RBI single made it 4-0 after three.  Rahl hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the only Rochester runs.  The Red Wings got the tying run up to bat with one out in the ninth.

Of note:  Doug Bernier was 0-for-4.  Chris Colabello was 0-for-4.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Chris Herrmann was 0-forr-1 before being replaced for no reason that is apparent from the play-by-play.  Alex Meyer had another short start, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

ALTOONA 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Jim Fuller struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Matthew Summers struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Daniel Turpen pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Matt Curry was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Willy Garcia was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his tenth.  Zack Dodson pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Three singles resulted in two runs for Altoona in the first inning.  New Britain scored once on a groundout in the second and got an RBI single from Reynaldo Rodriguez in the third to tie the score.  Garcia hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give the Curve a 4-2 lead.  The Rock Cats loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but a double play ended the inning.  New Britain did not threaten again until the ninth, when Hicks doubled and Rosario singled to cut the lead to 4-3 with one out.  The tying run got to third with two out.  Kennys Vargas was intentionally walked, putting the winning run on base, but a foul popup ended the game.

Of note:  Nate Hanson was 0-for-3 with two hit-by-pitches.  Vargas was 0-for-3 with two walks.  Starter Virgil Vasquez pitched six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Of interest:  Altoona's shortstop is Gift Ngoepe.  Altoona's left fielder is Drew Maggi.

FORT MYERS 12, CHARLOTTE 1 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting stars:  Nate Roberts was 4-for-5 with three doubles, scoring three times and driving in two.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Tyler Grimes was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.  Brian Gilbert pitched a scoreless inning, giving up three hits with one strikeout.  Brandon Peterson struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Marty Gantt was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.  Julian Ridings was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.  Marcus Jensen pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts.

The game:  A Grimes two-run double capped a three-run first for Fort Myers.  The Miracle put the game out of reach early with a six-run third.  Max Kepler had a bases-clearing single-plus-error in the inning.  Fort Myers had two other singles in the inning, plus a double, two walks, a hit batsman, two wild pitches, and a passed ball.  The lone Charlotte run came in the bottom of the third on triples by Gantt and Ridings.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  Travis Harrison was 0-for-5.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Kepler was 1-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

PULASKI 2, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting star:  Max Murphy was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  Starter Derrick Penilla struck out five in 4.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on seven hits and no walks.  Cameron Booser pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jay Baum was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Nelson Ward was 2-for-4 with a run.  Pat Peterson struck out five in four innings, allowing two hits and two walks.

The game:  Two singles, an error, and a wild pitch gave Pulaski a 1-0 lead in the third.  Elizabethton tied it in the sixth when Murphy doubled and scored on an Austin Diemer single.  in the seventh, Baum had the third of three singles to drive in the go-ahead run for the Mariners.  The Twins did not get a hit after the sixth.

Of note:  Diemer was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Tyler Mautner was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Brett Doe was 1-for-3 with a double.  Jonatan Hinojosa was 0-for-2 with a walk.

GCL ORIOLES 7, GCL TWINS 5 AT ORIOLES

Batting stars:  Manuel Guzman was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Onas Farfan struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and three walks.  Seth Wagner pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Yariel Vargas was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Austin Pfeiffer was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Elias Pinales pitched 3.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Frank Encarnacion singled in a run and a second scored on a wild pitch to give the Twins a 2-0 lead in the third.  They added two more in the fourth, but the Orioles seized the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run inning.  The inning consisted of a single, a double, three more singles, and three walks.  The Twins drew three walks of their own, plus getting a man on with an error, to tie the score in the sixth.  It stayed tied until the eighth, when two walks, an RBI double by Vargas, and a sacrifice fly brought home two for the Orioles and gave them a 7-5 advantage.  The Twins went down in order in the ninth and had their last seven batters retired.

Of note:  Logan Wade was 0-for-4 with a walk.  Encarnacion was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Starter Miguel Gonzalez struck out four in 3.1 innings, but gave up five runs on eight hits and no walks.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL DIAMONDBACKS 3 AT DIAMONDBACKS

Batting stars:  Robert Molina was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in two.  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Eugenio Diaz was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Pitching star:  Jadison Jimenez pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Ramon Hernandez was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice.  Emilio Vargas struck out five in five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks.

The game:  Molina had an RBI single followed by a run-scoring ground out that gave the Twins a 2-0 lead after two.  It stayed 2-0 until the seventh, when Hernandez tripled and scored to make it 2-1.  in the eighth, the Twins scored five times to put the game out of reach.  The runs scored on a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch, a two-run triple by Morel, and a sacrifice fly.

Of note:  Jorge Andrade was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-5 with a double and a run.
