Minor Details: Games of July 4

A big comeback for Rochester.  Another good start for Jose Berrios.  Also good starts by Ethan Mildren, Chih-Wei Hu, and Jadison Jimenez.

ROCHESTER 12, LEHIGH VALLEY 6 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Herrmann was 2-forr-2 with thrree walks, scorrinng thrree times and drrivinng in two.  Eric Farris was 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs.  James Beresford was 1-for-4 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Deolis Guerra struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Aaron Thompson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Maikel Franco was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Grady Sizemore was 3-for-5 with a run.  Tyler Henson was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.

The game:  Franco had a two-run triple in the first and Lehigh Valley got two more in the third to go ahead 4-0.  Brad Nelson had an RBI double and a run scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2 after four, but Franco had an RBI double in the fifth and scored on an error to give the IronPigs a 6-2 lead.  Rochester then came up with a six-run sixth to take the lead.  There was no one big hit, but two singles opened the inning, followed by three one-out singles and a walk.  With two out, a bases-loaded hit batsman tied the score and Pedro Florimon delivered a two-run single to give the Red Wings an 8-6 advantage.  In the seventh, Herrmann had a two-run single in a three-run inning that put Rochester in control of the game.

Of note:  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-6 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Starter Logan Darnell pitched five innings, giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN AT PORTLAND

Rained out.

FORT MYERS 6, CHARLOTTE 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a grand slam, his eighteenth homer.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios pitched six innings, giving up an unearned run on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Steven Gruver pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Granden Goetzman was 2-for-3 with a double.  MaxxTissenbaum was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Blake Snell struck out nine in five innings allowing two runs on two hits and a walk.

The game:  Tissenbaum singled in a run in the first to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.  Fort Myers did not get a hit in the first four innings, with both of their baserunners coming on errors.  In the fifth, though Jorge Polanco hit a two-run triple to give the Miracle a 2-1 lead.  It stayed 2-1 until the eighth, when Fort Myers opened the inning with three walks and Walker II made it pay with a grand slam.  Charlotte did not threaten in the ninth.

Of note:  Polanco was 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.  Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Nate Roberts was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Travis Harrison was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, BELOIT 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Bryan Haar was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his twelfth) and a walk.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Ethan Mildren pitched seven innings, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Dallas Gallant pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Todd Van Steensel pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Chih Fang Pan was 2-for-4.  Ryan Matthews was 1-for-3 with a walk.

The game:  Zack Granite tripled and Haar homered to give Cedar Rapids a 2-0 lead in the first.  A run scored on a wild pitch in the third to make it 3-0.  And that was it for the scoring.  Beloit did not get a man past second base.  Three times they put men on first and second--on two walks in the fifth, on two singles in the seventh, and on a single and a walk in the ninth.

Of note:  Granite was 1-for-1 with a triple and a run, but was removed from the game in the second inning.  Chad Christensen was 1-for-4 with a double.

ELIZABETHTON 5, BLUEFIELD 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Tanner English was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Pat Kelly was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Brian Navaretto was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching stars:  Chih-Wei Hu struck out nine in six innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Josue Montanez struck out two in a perfect inning.  Kuo Hua Lo had a perfect perfect inning, striking out all three batters.

Opposition star:  Chase Wellbrock struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

The game:  There was no score until the third.  English tripled in a run and scored on a Kelly single.  That was followed by an RBI double by Tyler Mautner, giving Elizabethton a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth, Tyler Kuresa and Navaretto each doubled and English had an RBI single to make it 5-0 Twins.  Bluefield had a man on second in both the second and third innings but their last sixteen batters were retired.

Of note:  Max Murphy was 1-for-4.  Mautner was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Keaton Steele pitched a perfect inning.

GCL RED SOX 13, GCL TWINS 3 AT RED SOX

Batting stars:  Jack Barrie was 4-for-4 with an RBI.  Rainis Silva was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Rafael Devers was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and a walk, driving in three.  Joseph Monge was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Josh Ockimey was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.

The game:  The Red Sox scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth to go up 5-0.  Silva singled in a run to get the Twins on the board in the sixth, but the Red Sox scored seven in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.  The Red Sox drew four walks in the inning and took advantage of two Twins errors.  Monge and Javier Guerra each contributed a two-run double.

Of note:  Manuel Guzman was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-4.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-3 with a run.  Starter Miguel Gonzalez pitched four innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

DSL TWINS 15, DSL DIAMONDBACKS 2 AT DIAMONDBACKS

Batting stars:  Junior Amarante was 3-for-5 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Edgar Herrera was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring four times and driving in one.  Gabriel A. Ynfante was 1-for-4 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in three.

Pitching stars:  Jadison Jimenez struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Randolph Perez pitched two shutout innings, giving up three walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Rafael Santana was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Francis Martinez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

The game:  Ynfante singled in two in a three-run second that put the Twins ahead 3-0.  Amarante doubled in two in a four-run fourth that made it 7-0.  The Twins added two in the fifth and six in the ninth.  Both Diamondbacks runs came in the ninth inning.

Of note:  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-5 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Lewin Diaz was 1-for-6 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Jorge Parra was 3-for-6 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Roni Tapia was 4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
