Game 97: Rays at Twins

Despite their current place in the AL East standings, the Rays have been pretty hot lately, winning 15 of their last 20 games. The Twins, on the other, wanted to believe that winning 5 of 6 before the All Star break meant they'd be in a position to pressure the front office into avoiding being "Sellers" at the trade deadline. Unfortunately, they have spent the past 2 games searching for offense, combining for 11 hits on Friday and Saturday.

The Twins send Kevin Correia to the mound (5-11, 4.61). Since June 5  he has a 2.30 ERA (seven starts). Unfortunately, he's only 3-4 in those games as he hasn't receive much run support, including none in three straight outings at one point before a win over Colorado on July 12.

The Rays send Chris Archer (5-5, 3.41 ERA)  to the mound.

  1. Well, this game is starting off wonderfully. Two batters in and I'm almost ready to go find something else to do.

    1. We're sitting out on the deck drinking beer, eating pizza, and listening to the game. I'm guessing one of those things might end pretty quickly, here.

      1. I wish I had a deck because losing baseball would be a million times better with a deck, beer, and pizza.

  2. Twins music guy playing "A Theme To Summer Place" during this discussion. hahahaha

  3. Highest batting averages in the lineup today belong to the two Eduardos (Escobar .275, Nunez .274).

    1. To be fair, that was pretty obviously an attempt at a bunt hit. I liked it because the Twins need base runners and have the top of the order coming up. Even though he didn't beat it out, he did at least move a couple runners up a base.

      1. That's a little more palatable, I was just going off what Gameday was labeling it. I do appreciate the move as a way to avoid the double-play, but there was already one runner in scoring position and I'd much rather see guys swinging away.
