    1. question: do major insurers insure business/industry against damage from solar events? A 12 pct chance of a Carrington-level direct hit in the next decade seems ginormous.

      1. At 20x the damage of Katrina? What do you think?

If any pending disasters keep me up at night, it's this one. What would your life look like without electricity for several months?

        1. Lots of hand cramps from writing out paperwork. Of course, who knows if my employer would be able to pay me

          1. with no water either, because no electricity to run the pumps? I'm thinking we'd have worse problems than not getting paid.

Yea, I recognize that no insurer can insure against "20x the damage of Katrina". But surely there are lower levels of damage that are insurable that some companies would seek coverage for?

            1. And surely scientists can convince governing bodies to have required surge protection in place for these multi-ton transformers that are in jeopardy? No, sorry, requires a bit of $$.

      2. question: do you expect an insurance carrier to be able to process claims after this happens?

    1. I did, but I don't expect people to memorize those things. He cleared waivers and is back in AA Bowie.

Seriously, all you need is a computer with a microphone and Skype. I will do literally everything else.

If your name is above, expect an email sometime today so that a) you have my address and b) we can start figuring a time. If you'd like to be on that list, just get a hold of me somehow - here, FB, email, raven.

    1. I'm in, too, but I'm not sure when. Since Fulham likely won't be playing Everton this year, we might not be as soccer-centric.

      1. I'm in as well. I'm headed to Ireland on Sunday, maybe we'll have an Emerald Isle centric podcast.

  2. How to be a curmudgeon and win the Interwebz at the same time.

    1. tru dat.

Not so much what Billy sent to Baltimore for a "proven closer" (Jemile Weeks and Dave Freitas) as the $10 million contract they gave him in December. Oy.

Freitas is an age-25 catcher who was blocked in the A's organization (behind Jaso, Norris, and Vogt with the big club). He doesn't hit well enough to project to more than a bit player and hasn't been put on the 40-man despite Matt Wieters's injury and the fact that the guys getting the catching innings with the big club can't hit a lick. Weeks is an age-27 slap-hitting utility guy.

    1. New #MNTwins AAA reliever Stephen Pryor, 25, had torn latissimusdorsimuscle reconstruction last year. Very, very rare. Once threw 100 mph.— Darren Wolfson(@DarrenWolfson) July 24, 2014

      That does not sound pleasant.

    2. that looks like a good deal. Gets Morales and the rest of his contract off the roster and gets somebody with a chance in return.

      1. The contract just means more money for the Pohlads since it does nothing for next year's budget. But it does sound like a decent deal considering how poorly Morales batted for the Twins. The surprising part is calling up Polanco again. I'm guessing they will just keep him around a few days until Mauer returns, but I would have thought they could have just called up Pinto and let him DH (or have Suzuki DH and Pinto C) until Mauer is back.

        1. maybe they want Pinto playing every day until they unload Suzuski, or until next season?

          1. He could do that at the MLB level, but that would mean sitting Suzuki or having him DH except on Pinto's off days. This is a short-term thing (hopefully) until Mauer gets back, so I would think they would want the player that could best help them for a few days. It's not going to stunt Pinto and I think he fits the bill a lot better than Polanco.

        2. It's also interesting that it was to the Mariners, who Morales basically told that he didn't want to re-sign with them before signing with the Twins. I would think that TR OK-ed it with Morales before trading him because of that, but if not, it could be an interesting drama if Morales is upset.

    1. Yeah, the Twins really had no other choice, especially given the details. Knoblauch obviously has anger management and/or alcohol abuse issues he hasn't dealt with.

    2. Knoblauch was the subject of merciless heckling every time he returned to Minnesota with the Yankees, including one game in 2001 that had to be stopped briefly when fans threw things at him while he played in left field.

I got to see history! Poor timing to have that return on student/dollar dog day.

        1. I meant specifically ZeeG, but... sure! The rest of you too! Except I would have known Beau. So clearly he wasn't with the rest of us.

    3. With all due respect... and this is coming from someone who HATED Chuck after he left to join the Yankees...
wasn't Puckett accused of the same thing?

        1. If I recall correctly, Puckett was accused of assault of a stranger, for groping her, but was acquitted. And I think there might have been a mutual DV situation with his wife, or possibly he was even the victim? I feel like she was the one who ended up with restraining orders against her (working tangentially with DV, I'm aware that that isn't necessarily proof of anything).

          1. Puckett, like so many players, was a role model on the field and no one to be idolized off the field. Knobby's a huge disappointment, but I still hope they're only cancelling the ceremony but going through with his HOF -- he certainly deserved it on the field.

            1. Agree completely. I have no problem cancelling the ceremony - I think it's the right move. If Knoblauch becomes ineligible for induction down the road, however, I think it would leave the Twins HOF open to some legitimate criticisms.

  3. how awesome is that

Vin Scully left me voicemail today. Signed off, "I've tried your cell and your office line. I'm pitching a no-hitter." Obvi, message SAVED.

  4. So, not that I'll probably ever use it, but I found out anyone with a google e-mail address can do some interesting things with it for filtering and flagging purposes, and probably lots of other stuff I'm not innovative or evil enough to think of right now.

  5. Sure, Danny Santana- why not hit a homerun?

He's going to come down to earth sometime, but it's fun watching him right now.

  6. I feel like I just did this to a very nice girl. It's for the best in the long term, but still sucky
