Minor Details: Games of August 6

Twins affiliates get swept in a shortened schedule.  Eddie Rosario had a good day.  Joe Mauer did not.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS

AKRON 6, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN AKRON

Batting star:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Ryan O'Rourke struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Tim Fedroff was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jake Lowery was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Alex Lavisky was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The game:  Fedroff doubled in a run in a three-run first to give Akron the early lead.  Jorge Polanco had a two-run double in the third to cut the lead to 3-2, but Lavisky singled in a run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2.  Rosario doubled in a run in the fifth to drop the lead to 4-3 and in the sixth, Brandon Waring and Mike Gonzales hit back-to-back homers to put New Britain up 5-4.  It stayed 5-4 until the ninth, when Lowery opened the inning with a home run.  Justin Toole then singled, went to second on a bunt, and scored on Fedroff's single to end the game.

Of note:  Tony Thomas was 2-for-5 with a double.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-5 with a double.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Polanco was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

ST. LUCIE 6, FORT MYERS 5 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting stars:  Levi Michael was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.

Pitching star:  Todd Van Steensel struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Gilbert Gomez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Gavin Cecchini was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Maikis De La Cruz was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

The game:  Dalton Hicks hit a two-run double and Adam Brett Walker II had a run-scoring single in a three-run first.  Michael hit a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 5-0, and it appeared that Fort Myers was firmly in control.  Gomez singled in a run in the bottom of the fourth to get St. Lucie on the board, but it was still 5-1 after five.  In the sixth, however, the Mets tallied five times.  The first two batters of the inning went out, but then came a single, an error, a two-run double by Gomez, a walk, and three consecutive RBI singles.  St. Lucie led 6-5 and they made the lead hold up.  The closest the Miracle came to tying it was the seventh.  Harrison hit a one-out double and went to third on a ground out, but there he stayed.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-5.  Hicks was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Walker II was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Starter Matt Tomshaw pitched six innings, giving up six unearned runs on ten hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

WISCONSIN 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Tanner Vavra was 3-for-4.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Logan Wade was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Brandon Bixler pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Josue Montanez struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Nick Burdi struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Chad Thompson pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Chris McFarland was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  Johnny Davis was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Wisconsin had only one hit through three innings, but then came the fourth.  A double, two singles, and a two-run double by Dustin DeMuth made it 3-0.  The next two batters went out, but then came two more singles and another two-run double, this time by McFarland, to make it a six-run inning.  The lone Cedar Rapids run came in the seventh on a single by Engelb Vielma.

Of note:  Vielma was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Max Murphy was 1-for-5.  Joe Mauer was 0-for-3.  Alex Swim was 0-for-4.  Starter Chih-Wei Hu had a rare bad start, going four innings and giving up six runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

ELIZABETHTON TWINS

GCL ORIOLES 3, GCL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

Batting star:  Rainis Silva was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Seth Wagner pitched five innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits with one strikeout.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Starter Tanner Scott struck out five in three shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Mike Burke struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  A double, a single, and an error led to two Orioles runs in the first inning.  The Twins didn't get a hit until the sixth, when they started the inning with three consecutive singles to cut the lead to 2-1.  Alejandro Juvier singled in a run in the seventh to get the Orioles lead back to two runs.  In the bottom of the seventh, Joel Ramirez walked, stole second, stole third, and scored on a ground out to cut the lead back to 3-2, but the Twins could never get the tying run into scoring position.

Of note:  Corey Wimberly was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Zack Granite was 1-for-4 with a run.  Starter David Hurlbut pitched three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.
