  1. Its nice that an up and comer like Burnley can hang tough with a mid table team like Man U.

  2. "Peter Crouch has great touch for a big man" should be the center square on EPL broadcast bingo.

    1. Nah, I think it's: "There wasn't much in that. When I played, that wasn't even a foul, but I suppose it's a yellow card with the way the game is today."

      1. Ooh, "not much in that for me" is a strong contender. We should see of we can get a list of 25 and make a full card.

  3. MLB apparently doesn't want fans to help them advertise their game by embedding clips like this one of Coco Crisp's "almost" incredible catch.

was watching live. It was a hell of an effort and he had the ball deep in his glove when he rammed into the wall. Not sure whether he got a mild concussion too or just hurt his arm/shoulder on the play. I know he's had neck issues for months. Anyway, that HR was basically the difference last night, as the A's couldn't muster any offense when they needed it against Weaver and the Angels' crappy bullpen.

Meanwhile, was flipping back and forth from the Giants' game. Serious ass-whupping put on the Brewers last night. It was good to see the G-men bust out the whuppin' sticks for a change. They probably won't catch the Dodgers, unfortunately, so prepare for a STL-at-SF wild card game.

  4. As much as I loathe Mark Hughes, I must say Stoke played very well today. Well deserved 3 points. And it's nice to see City drop points as well.

  5. Given how well Mourinho worked Drogba into the system at Chelsea his first time around, I don't get why Lukaku (Drogba v2.0) didn't stick. Personality clash? I'd suggest it's the glut of other talent, but Mou went and signed original, and now quite a bit older, Drogba.

    1. It sure would be nice if the decrepit old Sylvain Distin was replaced by John Stones in the center defense.

As for Lukaku/Jose, Lukaku struggles with holding play on occasion, and Jose loves to park the bus (relatively speaking for a team that's always loaded), so Lukaku's biggest weakness plays into Jose's biggest fear.

        1. I missed most of the first half because the dog, but what I saw of it and this second half have been nutso.

          1. First half was pretty much at exactly the same pace, except about five 50/50 offsides calls have gone against Everton including 2 for Chelsea goals in the first 3 minutes.

            1. I saw the first goal and Timmy's handball outside the box, but missed the second goal. Got back just at halftime.

          2. I don't think "bananas" and "nutso" are sufficient anymore. What's the next step up on the crazy food ladder?

            1. Game 163 is the highest form of praise, to me.

Basically, two events in my life have reached Game 163:
              1. Game 163
              2. GW-Charlotte in 2006.

              1. This lacks the urgency of Game 163 for me as it's only Week 3. If this was the final week of the season, then definite 163 territory.

                  1. Fair enough. But Everton had already handed away 4 points this season by blowing early leads, so they definitely have some urgency to stay in the Champions League race.

                    1. Went on a long bike ride to Afton this morning. Looks like I know what I'll be watching later tonight.

  6. Looking at b-r this morning and noticed that Jason Bartlett scored 3 runs this season.
    Pedro Florimon only scored 7.

    1. Aw, shoot. You're right, of course, but when Deduno has it working he's fun to watch, and I'll miss him.

    2. Sounds like Aaron Thompson will replace him. Do the Twins still have room on 40-man for Alex Meyer? Thompson sounds like more of a middle reliever/LOOGY. I'm wondering if the Twins will put May in Deduno's long relief role and let Meyer get his feet wet in the rotation the final month.

    3. He didn't have any market value (above the waiver fee?)?? Seems rather odd.

Fangraphs pegs his performance at replacement-level this year, but Statcorner has him at just a few runs below average, and b-r actually has him in the plus territory at 0.5 WAR. Seems like he should have been worth at least a low-level prospect.

      1. It was outright waivers, so the Twins either were hoping he could slip through or just wanted a free spot on the 40 man roster.

  7. According to Rochester's facebook page, Jose Berrios was promoted to AAA and will start for the Red Wings tonight.

  8. I decided to come out to the game at Camden today. I got here early, but there was no BP. I did manage to sweat through my shirt before even getting in the gate, so I've got that going for me.
