Take a break, Boyo.

Last weekend, did a mile swim on Friday, a 7 mile slog-run in very-warm-and-humid West Hartford (bet I lost 7 lbs in sweat) on Saturday, and a 100-mile bike-ride in East Massachusetts (Narragansett Wheelmen Century).  Took about 7.5 hours (the wife got a flat around mile 30, natch).

Yeah, I'm kinda sore from all that - need to roll out the legs, replenish, heal, and recover for Hartford Half-Marathon training (race is 10/11).

  1. Just wanted to let everyone know that I've lost 15-17 pounds in the past 4 months since my wife died. This is good. I had gotten a little pudgy over the winter and I made it a goal to get back into better shape. Same story as before: eat less; exercise more. I stopped consuming sugar as much as I can over the past month and the pounds really started to drop as I would estimate that I've lost 8-10 pounds in last 4-5 weeks. Oh and I've taken up yoga. The movement kind of yoga that makes me sweat through a shirt in 75 minutes kind of yoga.

Due to some upcoming events I see a bunch of beer drinking in my future so I will have to be extra vigilant in eating right and getting other exercise in.

My plan is to do some rock wall climbing over the winter and some light weights at home as I would to like to firm up my upper body. Also I'd still like to drop another 8 pounds or so, that would definitely get me into fighting trim.

The point of all this is that anyone can do it. Sure, as someone flying solo right now I have the time to choose my meals right and go to yoga, hiking/biking etc., while a lot of you have family obligations that I know from past experience takes up a lot of time and energy. But if you set attainable goals, count those calories, and move that body, the pounds will come off. Extra motivation: The ladies (spouses and other) like it too (hint hint, nudge nudge).

    1. Ireland was not friendly to my waist line. Guinness and pork pies? Check! Fried potatoes and whiskey? Double check! Fish and chips? Youbetcha!

On to the salads and back to the gym.

  2. Got my blender and shaker bottle from the parents while they were down in Tejas this weekend. Back on the protein shakes and 3-egg omlettes. I lost about 10 of the pounds I put on for bobsled training (still +10 net from when I started that like 2 years ago) and I want it back. As free mentioned above, the ladies notice that sort of thing.
