  1. Since I wasn't around yesterday, I thought I'd add my two cents about the Ron Gardenhire firing.

I was surprised. Not shocked, but surprised. Firing Gardy didn't seem like the Twins Way. Still, fairly or not, a manager is ultimately judged on the won-lost record. The Twins have lost over ninety games for four consecutive seasons, and someone had to be held responsible.

I think Gardy knew this was coming, or maybe he'd already been told. I was listening to the radio pre-game show Saturday night, and he starting telling Cory Provus how much he'd enjoyed working with him the last three years. I said to Mrs. A "He sounds like he doesn't expect to be back next season." Apparently I was right.

I feel kind of bad for him. It's never pleasant to get fired under any circumstances. He did his best--it's not like he wanted to lose over ninety games a year. On the other hand, he had a good, long run, more than most managers get. Overall, his record is still fairly good. I suspect that if he wants to manage again, he'll get the chance at some point.

So, we move on. I have no particular favorite for who the new manager should be. I'd like it to be someone who's good at developing young talent, since the Twins have some of it already and we hope have more coming up. Next season prediction: 162-0!

      1. No problem. By now everyone knows the real deadline is mid-Tuesday, but if I made it mid-Tuesday I'd be getting votes Wednesday. As it stands now, I get three or four stragglers with a plurality still on Monday

  2. I don't want to get into forbidden zone stuff, but my goodness is signing up for MNsure a headache.

    1. Let me follow this up by saying "but then I got in touch with someone who actually knew what they were talking about and all problems were cleared up."

    1. Well... SelectShow
        1. Perhaps. There are idiots of all political persuasions. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of trolling, though.

    2. Hey, I once rode in an elevator with the guy. It was before he was POTUS. And I've never had a criminal history or owned a gun.

      1. I shared the air with the pre-POTII at the Hartford XL Center. At the time, I worked across the street, and heard about the rally, and just walked over into the rally. A mess o' Kennedy's were there also, and 13,000 screaming fans.

  3. Re: first Ebola case in U.S.

How about all flights from Central Africa to the U.S. fly to an island, a nice island (do we still own Culebra? Vieques?) and passengers chill for X days, drinks on us (X > incubation period over, and all clear) before the final leg to their destination?

    1. Ebola doesn't spread very easily. I think cases in the US will be isolated instances from people that traveled to infected areas or sporadic breakdowns in sterilization.

    2. Ebola's only infectious when it's symptomatic. All the CDC has to do in this case is track contact that he had after he started showing symptoms and even then spreading it requires direct contact.
