Fall Festival: Games of October 22

A triple-double for Max Kepler.  Five-run innings abound.  Three blowouts.

SALT RIVER 9, SURPRISE 2 IN SURPRISE

Twins:  Max Kepler was 2-for-5 with a triple and a double, scoring once.

Salt River:  Evan Marzilli (Arizona) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in two.  Chris O'Dowd (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Edgar Olmos (Miami) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Surprise:  Juan Perez (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Seth Mejias-Brean (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Cody Kendall (Texas) struck out two in two perfect innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Salt River scored four in the second to take an early lead and four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Joe Sclafani (Houston) had a two-run single in the second.

MESA 9, SCOTTSDALE 3 IN SCOTTSDALE

Mesa:  Chad Hinshaw (Angels) was 2-for-3 with three walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Pedro Severino (Washington) was 4-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Neil Holland (Washington) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Scottsdale:  L. J. Mazzilli (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Colton Murray (Philadelphia) struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing four hits.

The game:  Addison Russell (Cubs) had a two-run single in a five-run second (aided by three walks) that gave Mesa a 6-0 lead.  Mazzilli hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to make it 6-3, but Scottsdale would get no closer.

GLENDALE 10, PEORIA 1 IN GLENDALE

Peoria:  Cody Stanley (St. Louis) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Matt Lollis (Tampa Bay) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Glendale:  Darnell Sweeney (Dodgers) was 4-for-5 with a home run and two doubles, scoring twice and driving in four.  Garabez Rosa (Baltimore) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second), scoring twice.  Robbie Ray (Detroit) struck out five in four innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.

The game:  Leading 2-1, Glendale scored five in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
