Mexican Matchups: Games of October 30

A five-run first carries Navojoa.  A big day for Antonio Lamas.  A bigger day for Xorge Carillo.

NAVOJOA 6, CULIACAN 1 IN NAVOJOA

Twins:  Eric Farris was 0-for-4.

Culiacan:  Issmael Salas was 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk.  Cody Decker (San Diego) was 2-for-3 with a double.  Hector Navarro pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Navojoa:  Luis Fonseca was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Reggie Abercrombie was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Oyervidez pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Navojoa scored five in the first to make it get late early.  Eliseo Aldazaba had a two-run double in the inning.

LOS MOCHIS 6, MAZATLAN 3 IN MAZATLAN

Los Mochis:  Antonio Lamas was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three.  Sandy Madera was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Edwin Salas struck out four in 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits.

Mazatlan:  Derrick Robinson (Cincinnati) was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Alberto Carreon was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Felipe Gonzalez (Pittsburgh) struck out two in a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.

The game:  Lamas' two-run triple in the fourth broke a 2-2 tie.  The lead was never less than two runs again.

MEXICALI 14, HERMOSILLO 6 IN HERMOSILLO

Mexicali:  Xorge Carillo (Mets) was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third), scoring three times and driving in seven.  Brock Peterson (Dodgers) was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer (his second) and three runs.  Mario Meza struck out two in 1.1 perfect innings.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jose Amador was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk.  Jose Cobos pitched a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and a walk.

The game:  Carillo hit a grand slam in the first to make it 4-0.  It was 6-3 after three, but Mexicali scored five in the fourth to put it out of reach.  Peterson had a three-run homer and Carillo a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
