Venezuelan View: Games of November 4

Aragua hangs on to win.  Galvis galvanizes Zulia.  A pair of big innings carry Caracas.

ARAGUA 3, MAGALLANES 2 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar was 1-for-4 for Aragua.

Magallanes:  Carlos Maldonado (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Juan Rivera (Arizona) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Bobby Blevins (Dodgers) struck out five in five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk.

Aragua:  Gustavo Molina (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Ramon Flores (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Manny Correa (Oakland) pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Aragua led 3-0 through five.  Magallanes got one in the sixth and one in the seventh and had the tying run on second in the seventh, but got no closer.

ZULIA 3, LA GUAIRA 2 IN ZULIA (10 INNINGS)

La Guaira:  Alex Castellanos (San Diego) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a double.  Jose Martinez was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Edgmer Escalona (Yankees) struck out six in 6.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.

Zulia:  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Reegie Corona (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Yeiper Castillo (Oakland) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

The game:  Martinez' RBI single put La Guaira ahead 2-1 in the seventh.  Corona singled in the tying run with two out in the ninth and Galvis singled in the winning run with one out in the tenth.

CARACAS 7, LARA 5 IN CARACAS

Lara:  Cesar Izturis (Houston) was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.  Anderson De La Rosa (Angels) was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Jhonny Montoya pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits with two strikeouts.

Caracas:  Alex Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Danry Vasquez (Houston) was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk, scoring twice.  Victor Sanchez (Seattle) pitched five innings, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Trailing 1-0 after two, Caracas scored four in the third and three in the fourth.  Lara scored two in the fifth and two in the ninth and had the tying run on base with two out in the ninth.
