Mexican Matchups: Games of November 6

A double Lutz wins it for Obregon.  A seven-run inning for Los Mochis.  A home run barrage for Jalisco.

OBREGON 2, CULIACAN 1 IN CULIACAN

Obregon:  Christian Villaneuva (Cubs) was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Donald Lutz (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Arturo Lopez pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Culiacan:  Maxwell Leon was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jorge Reyes (Atlanta) struck out nine in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks.

The game:  Lutz' RBI double in the sixth broke a 1-1 tie.  Culiacan had men on first and second with one out in the ninth when a double play ended the game.

MEXICALI 5, NAVOJOA 3 IN NAVOJOA

Mexicali:  Walter Ibarra (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Xorge Carrillo (Mets) was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Marco Antonio Duarte pitched six innings, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Navojoa:  Jon Weber (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Diego Madero was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Alejandro Soto struck out six in six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks.

The game:  Weber homered in the sixth to tie it 3-3, but Carrillo doubled and scored on an error to put Mexicali in front to stay in the eighth.  Chris Roberson singled in an insurance run later in the inning.

LOS MOCHIS 9, HERMOSILLO 7 IN HERMOSILLO

Los Mochis:  Antonio Lamas was 2-for-4 with a grand slam (his third homer) and a walk, scoring twice.  Ramon Orantes was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Oscar Verdugo struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Hermosillo:  Carlos Alberto Gastelum was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Jerry Owens was 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs.  Hector Galvan pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Trailing 7-2 after seven, Los Mochis scored seven runs in the eighth to take the lead.  Lamas' grand slam put Los Mochis in front.

JALISCO 16, MAZATLAN 0 IN JALISCO

Mazatlan:  Rogelio Norris (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4.  Derrick Robinson (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Josh Ravin (Dodgers) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Jalisco:  Japhet Amador was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his seventh and eighth) and five RBIs.  Marquez Smith (Cincinnati) was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer (his fifth), two doubles, and a walk, scoring twice.  Marco Tovar pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  In the third, Jose Manuel Rodriguez hit a three-run homer followed by a Leo Heras (Houston) solo homer to put Jalisco up 4-0.  They were never threatened after that.
