Venezuelan View: Games of November 7

A big day for Oswaldo Arcia.  Walks doom Caracas.  A big eighth carries Zulia.

ANZOATEGUI 8, ARAGUA 4 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar was 0-for-3 for Aragua.  Oswaldo Arcia was 4-for-4 with three doubles, scoring once and driving in three, for Anzoategui.

Aragua:  Alex Romero was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his second) and two runs.  Hector Gimenez (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Vianney Mayo (Colorado) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Anzoategui:  Cory Aldridge (Toronto) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third) and four RBIs.  Austin Fleet (San Francisco) struck out seven in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks.

The game:  A five-run seventh left Anzoategui up 7-0 and they were never threatened.  Aldridge hit a three-run homer and Tomas Perez (Colorado) a two-run homer in the inning.

MAGALLANES 4, CARACAS 3 IN MAGALLANES (13 INNINGS)

Caracas:  L. J. Hoes (Houston) was 2-for-6 with a three-run homer.  Daniel Mayora (Dodgers) was 0-for-2 with three walks and a run.  Miguel Socolovich (Mets) struck out three in two perfect innings.

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Lew Ford (Baltimore) was 2-for-5 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Carlos Quevedo (Houston) struck out three in three perfect innings.

The game:  It was tied 3-3 after four and stayed that way until the thirteenth.  Magallanes opened the inning with two walks and Tomas Telis (Texas) singled in the winning run.

LARA 4, LA GUAIRA 3 IN LARA

La Guaira:  Jamie Romak (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Luis Sardinas (Texas) was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk, driving in one.

Lara:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Cesar Hernandez (Philadelphia) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Eduardo Figueroa (Cubs) pitched five innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Two errors put La Guaira up 2-0 in the top of the sixth, but Lara responded with three in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead to stay.  It was 4-3 in the top of the eighth with the tying run on third and none out, but the next three batters struck out to end the inning.

ZULIA 12, MARGARITA 7 IN MARGARITA

Zulia:  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a double and two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Silvino Bracho (Arizona) retired all six men he faced, four by strikeout.

Margarita:  Junior Sosa (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.  Manny Pina (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Greg Holle (Milwaukee) pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  Margarita led 7-4 after seven, but Zulia scored six in the eighth and two in the ninth.  Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) had a two-run double and Reegie Corona (Yankees) had a two-run single in the eighth inning.
