Mexican Matchups: Games of November 9

A triple Lutz leads Obregon.  Four-run innings lift Los Mochis and Mexicali.  Hey, Camarena!

CULIACAN 2, MAZATLAN 0 IN MAZATLAN

Culiacan:  Jorge Vazquez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Oscar Robles was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Marco Camarena (Mets) struck out eight in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and no walks.

Mazatlan:  Jesus Castillo was 2-for-3 with a double.  Heber Gomez was 2-for-4.  Walter Silva pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Culiacan scored two in the first and made it hold up.  They opened the game with two walks, followed by a sacrifice bunt and Vazquez' two-run single.

OBREGON 4, HERMOSILLO 1 IN OBREGON

Hermosillo:  Carlos Alberto Gastelum was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Luis Alfonso Garcia was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  James Gilheeney (Seattle) pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Obregon:  Donell Linares was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Donald Lutz (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.  Irwin Delgado struck out ten in six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk.

The game:  Obregon scored three in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.  Lutz tripled and scored in the inning and Said Gutierrez had a two-run single later in the inning.

LOS MOCHIS 8, NAVOJOA 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Navojoa:  Jon Weber (Detroit) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his sixth.  Carlos Orrantia was 2-for-3 with a double.  Gene Escat (Baltimore) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Los Mochis:  Sandy Madera was 3-for-5 with a home run.  Sebastian Valle (Philadelphia) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and two walks.  Carlos Fisher (Atlanta) pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts.

The game:  Leading 4-2 after six, Los Mochis scored four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

MEXICALI 8, JALISCO 1 IN MEXICALI

Jalisco:  Marquez Smith (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  David Kopp (Detroit) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Mexicali:  Gil Velazquez was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks, scoring three times.  Walter Ibarra (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Javier Solano (Dodgers) pitched six shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Leading 3-0, Mexicali scored four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  They opened the inning with three walks, followed by a single, an error, and a double.
