      1. I tried "Company's Flu Shots will be offered until 9:30am", email received at 8:45 during 8:30-9:30 meeting, preceding my scheduled 9:30 health screening which I thought would get me flu shot.
I think the rest of my family had the flu shot though. I've heard that they missed badly this year on which strain would be most active.

          1. Fantastic.
I think I'm burning the vacation time I planned to use between Christmas and New Year's.
I may get to be the one guy in the office on New Year's Eve.
I feel like cussing as if I were Zack's twitter feed.

                1. Who knew Iggy Pop was such a fan of Dickens's Bleak House?
But yeah, I'm up there with Iggy and Lady Dedlock.
So many things I could do and I can't do them.
So many things I should do and I can't do them.
I've basically listened to the entire Plastikman discography (only through Consumed, I don't want Closer nightmares) front-to-back while drifting in and out of sleep.

  1. Lester to the Cubbies - 6 years, $155M. I know there were rumors, but I honestly didn't see this actually happening... I always expect the Boston/New York's to win these things. Epstein seems to have a plan.

    1. Who knows if he would have taken the money anyways if Boston had the top offer, but I can't imagine the Red Sox did themselves any favors when it came to how they treated Lester previously.

        1. Yep, that's just sound strategy.

Honestly, I think Lester made the right call. The Cubs have become very interesting.

    1. The Good: Increasing programming and decreasing antipsychotics. They're rarely all that effective with Alzheimer's other than as a blunting agent, and even if it calms bad behavior, and it also usually decreases energy and happiness.

The Bad: Merry walker? Seriously? Those things are death traps. I hadn't seen one in use since the early 2000s, and every client I saw with them kept tipping over and getting pinned at odd angles to the ground. Not to mention other residents kicking them and trying to knock them over.

  2. friendly alert: big storm coming for NorCal tonight through Friday. If you don't hear from me in a few days, send out a rescue party.

      1. Alameda closed in the late 1990s*, so let's hope so.

*Coincidence that Kirk & Co had to go all the way back to 1986? I think not!

  3. The Canadiens honored Jean Beliveau last night. The dude was involved in 17 Stanley Cups (10 as a player, 7 in management). Skip to 9:50 or so for the most quiet I've ever heard a stadium during a moment of silence and then one hell of a rendtition of "O Canada"*

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME_lVe9s3js

*"O Canada" might actually be my favorite national anthem when belted out by a stadium full of people. That or "Land of my Fathers" before a big Welsh international rugby match.

  4. I really hate cancer.

    1. It's roster jiu-jitsu.
Everyone else is trying to improve.
You let them beat each other up and get out of the way.
Like the ugly kitten in Gág's Millions of Cats.

    2. Astros will put him at closer, let him rack up saves for a year or two, then trade him for prospects. Pretty decent plan.

            1. Can Wisconsin get the ousted Youngstown coach?
Someone's gonna Chizik this thing from getting fired for having a horrible record at a bad school to a national championship.

          1. That would be awesome. I would very much enjoy watching the Bo Pelini Will Explode Face coaching at another B1G school (to whose success I am indifferent).

    1. Great; cue people who work at the university complaining about our academic standards being too high and pay for assistant coaches to low in 3, 2, 1...

Nevermind, I see on the FookBase that they've already started.

      1. Having a high academic standard has not stopped Northwestern or Purdue from bringing in players.

      2. I don't have to see any of that kind of stuff (at least, I don't think I will), but I'm surprised the history revisions haven't started happening yet.

  5. Whoa, Jimmy Rollins was traded to the Dodgers. The Dodgers trade Dan Haren and Dee Gordon to the Marlins.
Lots of action during the Winter Meetings this year.
