  1. Without spoilers, the second episode of Parks and Rec last night was one of the best episodes in that series entire run.

    1. I just now noticed that it's back up and running. The Milkmaid and I will have to get back on it.

I guess I'm getting old, because it still feels to me like the show just started.

    2. It's the second week in a row I've missed P&R because it's supposed to be on THURSDAY FOR PETE'S SAKE!

    3. I still haven't made it through Season 1. I know I should probably skip it on start with Season 2 or even 3, but I'm too distracted by Friends on Netflix.

      1. S1 is not bad. It gets better as it moves along. S2 is where the show really gets humming.

  2. Had an interview in the cities today (hopefully the middle one in a series for this particular organization (prayers appreciated)). On the way home, I stopped for a quick lunch. Unfortunately, upon returning to my car, it refused to start. I ended up with a tow, a diagnosed broken starter, and a sizable bill for my trouble. Plus, tomorrow I have to drive the loaner car back up the cities to reclaim my vehicle and pay the bill.

But it's not even remotely close to the insane travel difficulties I went through to get my former job. That one involved a delayed flight into my transfer in Milwaukee that guaranteed I wouldn't catch my connection, eventually getting a plane that couldn't move forward because the brakes locked up, offloading and reloading onto a new plane, finally getting into Milwaukee at 3 a.m., accidentally getting a military discount in the only open restaurant, trying to "iron" my suit using the blow dryers in an airport bathroom, and getting a ride from Milwaukee to Minneapolis from a deaf man who spent most of the drive signing at 90 mph. So... all told, today went pretty well.

  3. So the idea has made its way into my head to move to the Twin Cities. Why, you may ask, would I do that when I'm very anti-winter and pro-return-to-Prague? Why do you think? A girl, of course.

I know logically it's a crazy step, but I can't shake it either.

      1. When I was in Prague it was double-digits below zero the whole time. Well, it maybe got to -7.
Celsius, but that's not different than what Minneapolis has in January.

        1. Checking the mean temperatures for Prague, you were there during a colder than average stretch of time. Mean low is upper 20s Fahrenheit. Their record lows are something we generally reach every winter.

          1. If I remember, the winter I was there was considered particularly bad, but I found it comparable to an Iowa winter.

            1. The coldest month of 2012 was February with an average daily low temperature of 18°F.
Relative to the average, the coldest day was February 12. The low temperature that day was -6°F, compared to the average of 25°F, a difference of 31°F. In relative terms the coldest month was February, with an average low temperature of 18°F, compared to an typical value of 26°F.
The longest cold spell was from January 26 to February 15, constituting 21 consecutive days with cooler than average low temperatures.

Of course, this stretch is right when I got back from Christmas. So an abnormally cold winter there was business as usual far as I was concerned.

          2. Sure enough, it was a cold time in Prague, even if my memory of the exact temperatures was off.
I was there Jan 22 or 23 through the 26th? Maybe we left early on the 27th? It now occurs to me that the last night was a bit warmer, when we walked back from U Flecku.
We got in late on the day because there was a big snowstorm that slowed our bus ride from Vienna. A 3-hour trip turned into 12 or more hours.

  4. I hate linking to Souhan, because he is the worst. But jeebus, he is the worst.

He's been out for months with a sprained ankle. He does not appear close to returning. It's time for the young man to act like he cares about playing basketball.

    1. What I really don't get is the Wolves aren't going to the playoffs, so what would be the point? We know they won't win the lottery, but they could at least guarantee themselves the best draft pick possible with Rubio sitting out.

        1. Lavine would be sitting a lot more with Rubio playing.

I'm not sure this is an argument in favor of keeping Ricky out.

      1. There is also this:

        Jon Krawczynski @APkrawczynski
Flip said Rubio asked to go 24/7 on his rehab. Doctors had to back him off. "He's his own worst enemy."

If the doctors are saying he cant go, what is Rubio supposed to do?

          1. If the Twins "braintrust" ran the Timberwolves, they'd overpay to bring KG in. Maybe a bunch of Cheerios-related remarks about Rubio would get him back on the court!

It's pretty shameful that easily the worst-ran organization in Minnesota treats their star's injury better than the Twins.

            1. This analogy falls apart because KG is definitely not Hunter. He has swung at teammates though, but you always knew that KG was intense^50 and maybe just a little psychotic. He never pretended to be otherwise.

Man, KG. He's like a tragic figure now. It appears to me that he has the fire to compete and so forth, but Father Time has caught up with him. He has not aged gracefully. He's embarrassed himself repeatedly and it seems like he can't help himself.

Despite all of it, despite it not ending well, he's still my guy.

    2. Didn't I just see a headline that his injury was much worse than anticipated? I'll have to find that...
