Minor Details: Games of April 14

A solid game for Pat Dean.  Not much offense for the MIracle.  Jared Wilson keeps the Kernels unbeaten.  It's not a sweep, but two out of three ain't bad!

ROCHESTER 3, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 1 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

Batting stars:  Argenis Diaz was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  James Beresford was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Pat Dean struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.  Lester Oliveros struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ben Gamel was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Bryan Mitchell struck out seven in 3.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks.  Jose Ramirez pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

The game:  The Red Wings took the lead in the third when a run scored on a wild pitch.  In the sixth, an RBI double by Diaz and a run-scoring triple by Hicks made it 3-0.  The RailRiders got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth when Gamel tripled and scored on a ground out.  They did not get the tying run on base.

Of note:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Danny Ortiz was 1-for-5.

TAMPA 3, FORT MYERS 1 IN TAMPA

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Alex Swim was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Logan Wade was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Tim Shibuya struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits.  Brandon Peterson pitched two shutout innings, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ericson Leonora was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Angel Rincon pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk with two strikeouts.  Melvin Morla started and pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Leonora singled in a run in the second and another in the fourth as the Yankees built a 3-0 lead after four.  Swim had an RBI single in the fifth but the Miracle left the bases loaded.  That was their last chance, though, because the Miracle did not get a hit after the fifth inning.

Of note:  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-5.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Chad Christensen was 1-for-3 with a walk.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, BELOIT 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Tanner English was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Trey Vavra was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Pitching stars:  Jared Wilson pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  C. K. Irby struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings but gave up three walks.  Cameron Booser pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Trent Gilbert was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Melvin Mercedes was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Yairo Munoz was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

The game:  A four-run second, highlighted by a two-run Nick Gordon single, put the Kernels up 5-0.  A two-run Snapper seventh cut the lead to 6-4, but the Kernels got the two runs right back in the bottom of the seventh when Jorge Fernandez delivered a two-run single.  The Snappers loaded the bases with three walks in the eighth but did not score.

Of note:  Gordon was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.  Max Murphy was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Fernandez was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
