Minor Details: Games of April 18

A rough day for Twins affiliates, due mostly to poor pitching.  The lone exception was D. J. Baxendale, who led the Lookouts to the only Twins win.

PAWTUCKET 13, ROCHESTER 3 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting stars:  Brock Peterson was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Jose Martinez was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.  Eric Fryer was 2-for-3.

Pitching star:  Brock Peterson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Humberto Quintero was 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs.  Blake Swihart was 4-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Quintin Berry was 2-for-4 with a  home run, a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.

The game:  Pawtucket led 3-2 after four, then scored three in the fifth and five in the sixth to put it out of reach.  Quintero hit a three-run homer in the fifth.  In the sixth, Berry hit a two-run homer and Matt Spring hit a three-run homer.

Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-4 with a run.  Starter Mark Hamburger struck out four in four innings, but gave up five runs on ten hits and two walks.

BIRMINGHAM 11, CHATTANOOGA 5 IN CHATTANOOGA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-4 with two homers (his third and fourth) and three RBIs.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Travis Harrison was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.

Pitching stars:  Adrian Salcedo pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Dallas Gallant pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Courtney Hawkins was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a double, driving in four.  Joey DeMichele was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jacob May was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.

The game:  It was 1-1 after one, but the Barons scored five in the second and five in the third to take control.  Hawkins had a two-run double to cap the second and a two-run homer to cap the third.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4.  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4.  Starter Greg Peavey pitched 2.2 innings, giving up eleven runs (ten earned) on thirteen hits and no walks with one strikeout.

CHATTANOOGA 1, BIRMINGHAM 0 IN CHATTANOOGA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-3.  Travis Harrison was 1-for-2 with an RBI.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a run.

Pitching stars:  D. J. Baxendale struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks.  Zack Jones struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Adrian Nieto was 1-for-1 with two walks.  Junior Guerra struck out five in 3.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk.

The game:  The lone run came in the first when Harrison drove in Polanco with a two-out single.  Birmingham's best scoring chance came in the third, when the Barons opened the inning with a pair of singles.  The runners advanced to second and third with two out, but a ground out ended the threat.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-3.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-3.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-2.

ST. LUCIE 7, FORT MYERS 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Marcus Knecht was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs.  Jason Kanzler was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, driving in two.  Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching star:  Madison Boer struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Matt Oberste was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer.  Michael Conforto was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a walk, scoring twice.  Jeff McNeil was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

The game:  Fort Myers led 3-2 after four, but in the fifth McNeil singled home the tying run and Oberste hit a three-run homer to make it 6-3 Mets.  The Miracle did not get closer than two runs after that.

Of note:  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-5.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-5.  Alex Swim was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Chad Christensen was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Starter Ethan Mildren pitched 4.1 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

BURLINGTON 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN BURLINGTON

Batting star:  T. J. White was 2-for-3 with a run.

Pitching star:  Randy LeBlanc pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Zachary Houchins was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and three RBIs.  Caleb Adams was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Andrew Robichaux pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  The Bees scored two in the first and led the entire game.  Nick Gordon's two-run single cut the lead to 3-2 in the third and a sacrifice fly in the seventh again cut it to one at 4-3, but the last eight Kernels were retired.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-4.  Gordon was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  Zack Larson was 1-for-4.  Max Murphy was 1-for-4.  Trey Vavra was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Starter Michael Cederoth struck out six in six innings, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks.
