Half-Baked Hall: 1929 Election Results

How did Joss and Griffith do? Did Ray Schalk use his Field of Dreams fame and surprise everyone? Is this whole process truly half-baked?

Ty Cobb

Indeed he was. 100% of you think so. Ty Cobb is our fourth player to sweep the ballot.

Walter “Big Train“ Johnson

Walter Johnson comes in at 95%, high enough to be considered inner-circle. Of course, when Scott Baker comes up and gets 100%, we might have to debate that point.

Tris Speaker

Our third inner-circle player to be elected to the HBH is Tris Speaker, also coming in at 95% of the vote.

Addie Joss

So we here at the Half-Baked Hall wanted to ensure that this whole process was indeed half-baked. Due to an administrative error of some kind (we'll make sure to punish those involved), Joss wound up with 7 ballots. He took advantage of it and stormed all the way up to 86% on his last ballot. He joins Billy Hamilton as players who were elected outside the established rules. How big will that class get I wonder?

Charles Alber Chief Bender

AMR stole the old plaque for Chief Bender, so here's a new one to replace it.

Remaining On The Ballot (13 Players)

Everyone was in a good mood for this election, as several players took big jumps. Bobby Wallace fell one vote short on his 4th ballot after a sizable increase. Joe Tinker stormed up 19 points on his 5th ballot to get over the 50% hump. If anyone from that famed Cubs infield is going to make it, it's going to have to be him as Evers makes a poor first showing.

Stan Coveleski has the best debut for those who weren't elected.

Bobby Wallace: 71% +14
Stan Coveleski: 57%
Joe Tinker: 52% +19
Miller Huggins: 48% +6
Hughie Jennings: 43% +1
Sherry Magee: 43% +10
Zack Wheat: 43%
Smokey Joe Wood: 33% +0
Max Carey: 29%
Urban Shocker: 29%
Eddie Cicotte: 19% -10
Heinie Groh: 14%
Johnny Evers: 10%

Falling Off The Ballot (13 Players)

It was not a perfect day for old Senators as Clark Griffith falls just one vote short on his final ballot. Meanwhile, not a lot of surprises here. Hall-of-famers Schalk and Southworth do not impress.

Clark Griffith: 71% +4
Gavvy Cravath: 24%
Wally Pipp: 24%
Roger Peckinpaugh: 19%
Ken Williams: 19%
Bullet Joe Bush: 14%
Dutch Leonard: 14%
Jack Fournier; 10%
Stuffy McInnis: 10%
Ray Schalk: 10%
George Burns: 5%
Billy Southworth: 5%
Bob Shawkey: 0%

          1. No, see this was self-deprecating reference to the previous thread where I mistakenly assumed that no one got a joke that everyone got, not an actual offer to explain that at one point Scott Baker was nicknamed "Light Rail" in homage to Walter Johnson, and so referring to Walter Johnson as "kind of like Scott Baker" would be a humorous reversal of that.

  1. I would like to know Geoff and FTLT's criterion that kept the Big Train and Trip Speaker from being unanimously elected.

    1. Voting on my phone and only half paying attention! Should have been a yes. Sorry committee, I will take my voting more seriously moving forward and vote only on my computer at homke.
