Minor Details: Games of May 6

A Pinto homer wasn't enough for the Red Wings.  Alex Wimmers pitched well in a Lookout loss.  Hu stays hot for the Miracle.  Murphy's law leads to a Kernel victory.

INDIANAPOLIS 3, ROCHESTER 1 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting star:  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.

Pitching star:  Mark Hamburger pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jose Tabata was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Ex-Twin Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Nick Kingham pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Gustavo Nunez singled in a run in the third and Pinto homered in the fourth to tie it 1-1.  In the sixth, a single, a double, a single, and a sacrifice fly brought home two Indians runs and made it 3-1.  The Red Wings had men on second and third with one out in the eighth but did not get the ball out of the infield after that.

Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-4.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-4.  Pat Dean pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and three walks with one strikeout.

JACKSON 4, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Alex Wimmers struck out seven in six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks.  Cole Johnson struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Smith was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice.  James Gilheeney struck out five in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two alks.

The game:  The Lookouts scored two in the second to take a brief 2-1 lead, but an RBI single by Jordy Lara tied it 2-2 in the third.  It remained 2-2 until the seventh, when a two-out two-run double by Dario Pizzano put the Generals in front 4-2.  The Lookouts got one back in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on third with two out in that frame, but did not get another hit the rest of the game.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-4.

FORT MYERS 9, BRADENTON 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.    Niko Goodrum was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Zach Granite was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Chih-Wei Hu pitched five shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Jose Velez struck out four in three perfect innings.  Alexis Tapia pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Erich Weiss was 3-for-4.  Austin Meadows was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Clario Perez pitched 4.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.

The game:  Goodrum's two-run homer capped a three-run first.  Six singles in the third produced five more runs and the game was never close again.  The Marauders got a man to second in the fourth and fifth but did not advance him.

Of note:  Alex Swim was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, WISCONSIN 2 IN WISCONSIN

Batting stars:  Max Murphy was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in three.  Trey Vavra was 3-for-5 with two runs.  Rainis Silva was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.

Pitching stars:  John Curtiss struck out eight in six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.  Trevor Hildenberger struck out three in two perfect innings.  Cameron Booser struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  David Denson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.   Carlos Leal was 2-for-4.  Luke Curtis pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  It was 2-2 after five, but the Kernels scored three in the sixth and three in the seventh to take control of the game.  Murphy had a two-run single-plus error in the sixth and a three-run single-plus-error in the seventh.

Of note:  Tanner English was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 with a walk and two runs.
