Minor Details: Games of June 1

David Hurlbut gets pounded for the second straight time for the Lookouts.  No offense for the Miracle.  Stephen Gonsalves was awesome for the Kernels.  The DSL Twins finally play a full game.

TENNESSEE 13, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his tenth) and a walk.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Tim Shibuya pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Cole Johnson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.  J. T. Chargois pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Stephen Bruno was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times and driving in three.  Billy McKinney was 1-for-2 with a double and three walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Elliot Soto was 1-for-2 with three walks, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  It was a game for six innings.  The Smokies got two in the top of the first, but Sano hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to tie it up.  The Lookouts actually took the lead in the third, scoring on a wild pitch to go up 3-2, but the Smokies got two in the fourth to go up 4-3.  It stayed there until the seventh, when the Smokies scored four runs on one hit, getting the benefit of two errors, two walks, and a wild pitch.  They added five in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-5.  Travis Harrison was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4.  David Hurlbut pitched four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts.

ST. LUCIE 5, FORT MYERS 1 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Marcus Knecht was 2-for-4.

Pitching star:  Alex Muren struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  L. J. Mazzilli was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Dominic Smith was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Logan Taylor pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Mazzilli's two-run homer in the third put the Mets up 2-0.  A double and two singles made it 4-0 after six.  The lone Miracle run came on Swim's RBI double in the eighth, but it simply cut the lead to 5-1.   The Miracle did not get the tying run up to bat.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 1-for-4 with a run.  Chad Christensen was 0-for-4.  Mat Batts struck out seven in 5.2 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits and no walks.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, CLINTON 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Zack Larson was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk, scoring once.  T. J. White was 0-for-0 with three walks.

Pitching stars:  Stephen Gonsalves struck out eleven in seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks.  Randy LeBlanc struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Estarlyn Morales was 2-for-4.  Chris Mariscal was 2-for-4.  Rohn Pierce pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  The Kernels jumped out early, as Brett Doe delivered a two-out two-run single to cap a three-run first.  The Kernels added single runs in the second and fourth.  The LumberKings did not get a hit until the seventh.  They got two in the seventh and two more in the ninth, but did not advance a man past second base.

Of note:  Blake Schmit was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-5 with two runs.  Max Murphy was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.

DSL GIANTS 8, DSL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Gabriel A. Ynfante was used as a reserve and went 1-for-1 with a double and a run.  Jean Carlos Arias was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Jorge Parra was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Luis Bellorin pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.  Andriu Marin struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Robinson Medrano was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Jose Rivero was 3-for-6 with a double.  Victor Concepcion pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Leading 2-0 through four, the Giants scored four in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  They had five singles, a double, and an error in the inning.  The Twins never got closer than five runs after that.

Of note:  Edwin Franco was 0-for-3.  Jose Ramirez pitched four innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits and three walks with no strikeouts.
