Minor Details: Games of June 11

It got late early for the Red Wings.  A big inning sinks the Lookouts.  The Miracle plays twenty innings and gets two wins.  A three-pitcher shutout for the DSL Twins.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 9, ROCHESTER 2 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Danny Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Danny Santana was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Logan Darnell struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Cole Figueroa was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Kyle Roller was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Kyle Davies pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  The RailRiders scored two in the first and four in the second and the game was pretty much over at that point.  Roller had a three-run double to cap the four-run second.  The Red Wings were never closer than five runs after that.

Of note:  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-4.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-4.  Tyler Duffey pitched 5.1 innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout.

BIRMINGHAM 5, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN BIRMINGHAM

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a home run (his eleventh) and a walk.  Max Kepler was 2-for-3 with a double.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Joey DeMichele was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Chris Marrero was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Myles Jaye struck out seven in six innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks.

The game:  Sano's fourth-inning homer was the only run of the game through six innings.  In the seventh, however, the Barons struck for five runs and took control of the game.  DeMichele had a two-run single and Marrero a two-run double in the inning.  The Lookouts got three two-out walks in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended the game.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a double.  Brett Lee pitched very well for six innings but fell apart in the seventh, giving him a line of 6.1 innings and four runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

FORT MYERS 2, LAKELAND 1 IN LAKELAND (GAME 1--13 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Ryan Walker was 2-for-6 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Ryan Eades struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk.  Matt Summers pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Brian Gilbert pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Calvin Drummond pitched four shutout innings, allowing only a walk with three strikeouts.  Paul Voelker struck out six in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

The game:  Ismael Salgado tripled and scored in the first and Michael Quesada doubled in a run in the second.  It stayed 1-1 from the second through the twelfth.  In the thirteenth, Walker singled and Marcus Knecht doubled him in.  The Flying Tigers went down in order in the bottom of the thirteenth.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-6.  Alex Swim was 1-for-5 with a walk.  Knecht was 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

FORT MYERS 7, LAKELAND 3 IN LAKELAND (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Logan Wade was 3-for-3 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Ryan Walker was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Marcus Knecht was 2-for-4 with a runs and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Kohl Stewart pitched six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout.  Luke Westphal pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Javier Betancourt was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Raph Rhymes was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

The game:  A two-run error put the Flying Tigers ahead 2-1 after four.  The Miracle came back in the fifth, with Knecht's two-run single capping a three-run inning that put them ahead 4-2.  Wade had a two-run double in the sixth and came around to score later in the inning to put the Miracle in control of the game.

Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-2.  Alex Swim was 0-for-3 with a walk.

GREAT LAKES AT CEDAR RAPIDS

Rained out.  Will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

DSL TWINS 3, DSL RED SOX 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Jorge Munoz was 2-for-3 with a double.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  Jadison Jimenez struck out nine in five shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Luis Bellorin struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Randolph Perez pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and four walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Willis Figueroa was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Victor Familia pitched 3.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  A two-out rally, keyed by a strikeout/wild pitch, put the Twins up 2-0 in the third.  They added a run in the seventh.  The Red Sox had a man on third with none out in the third and loaded the bases with two out in the seventh.

Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-3 with a run.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-3 with an RBI.
