Minor Details: Games of June 30

Ervin Santana is as ready as he's going to be.  A good game for Stephen Gonsalves.  Luke Westphal pitches well, too.  Alexis Tapia may have pitched the best of all.  Kerby Camacho is macho for the GCL Twins.  The DSL Twins are blown out.

ROCHESTER 1, PAWTUCKET 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Jose Martinez was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-3 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Ervin Santana pitched eight shutout innings, giving up five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect ninth with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jonathan Roof was 2-for-3.  Luis Martinez was 2-for-3.  Henry Owens pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  It was scoreless through six, and in fact the Red Wings did not have a hit through six, but when they got one in the seventh they made it count.  Martinez led off with a double, took third on a ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly for the game's only run.  The only time the Red Sox got a man past first base was in the eighth, when a pair of two-out singles put men on first and second.

Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Danny Ortiz was 0-for-2 with an RBI.  Eric Fryer was 0-for-3.

CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS

No game scheduled.

FORT MYERS 2, DUNEDIN 1 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4.  Zach Granite was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Stephen Gonsalves struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks.  Todd Van Steensel pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and three walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Anthony Alford was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Rowdy Tellez was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Murphy Smith struck out seven in 5.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and a walk.

The game:  Swim singled in a run in the first.  In the fifth, Vielma singled and scored on a stolen base-plus-error-plus-error.  The Blue Jays threatened in the sixth, loading the bases with one out, but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning.  The Blue Jays got their lone run in the eighth on a single and three walks, but again left the bases full.  They put men on first and third with two out in the ninth, but a foul out ended the game.

Of note:  Swim was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, WISCONSIN 2 IN WISCONSIN

Batting stars:  Brian Navaretto was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Zack Larson was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Luke Westphal struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks.  Randy LeBlanc pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Elvis Rubio was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.  Brandon Diaz was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.  David Burkhalter struck out five in four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk.

The game:  Each team scored one in the first.  Navaretto singled in a run in the second to make it 2-1 and it stayed there until the seventh, when Gordon doubled and scored.  In the Timber Rattlers ninth, a hit batsman and a walk put two on and a pair of productive outs cut the lead to 3-2 and put the tying run on third base, but a foul out ended the game.

Of note:  Tanner English was 1-for-5 with a double and a run.  Alex Real was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Max Murphy was 0-for-3 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 3, BRISTOL 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Austin Diemer was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, scoring once.  Nelson Molina was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Pitching stars:  Alexis Tapia struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  Samuel Clay struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Jose Abreu struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Carlos Munoz was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Christopher De Leon struck out three in two perfect innings.

The game:  Minier hit a two-run single to cap a three-run third that gave the Twins all the runs they would need.  The lone Pirates run came on Munoz' two-out homer in the fourth, their first hit of the game.  The only other Pirate threat came in the seventh, when a walk and an error put two on with none out.

Of note:  Manuel Guzman was 1-for-4 with a run.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-4.  Tyler Kuresa was 0-for-3.  A. J. Murray was 0-for-3.  Kamran Young was 0-for-3.

Opposition stars:  Devin Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Juan Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Herminio Germoso pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  It was 1-1 after three.  The Rays got two in the top of the fourth, but an error plated two in the bottom of the fourth to tie it 3-3.  It remained tied until the eighth, when Camacho hit a grand slam to put the Twins in front.  The Rays went down in order in the ninth and in fact had their last twelve batters retired.

Of note:  Lewin Diaz was 1-for-3 with a walk.  John Hayman was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Jose Martinez pitched four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.

  1. Wait, what? Was that really Rochester's jersey for a recent game? I want one of those.

  2. also, did Minier have a two-run single, or a two-run HR? You said it both ways, but said he was 1-4.
