    1. The Chattanooga broadcaster said last night that it looked like Vargas was trying to hit a home run on every swing. That's obviously not a good approach, although it would be understandable that he might be trying too hard. We'll hope Mientkiewicz and Chad Allen can get him to stay within himself and just hit the way he can hit.

      1. I hope they are able to. For some reason I really want Vargas to succeed. Maybe it's because a switch hitter who can hit the ball as far as he can would be awesome, out maybe it's because I'm worried he's going to get jerked around in the minors without being able to really get into any kind of groove, but all I know is that i really want him to do well.

        1. I took a look at Paul Molitor's early career. He came up in 1978 and did really well in the first half, but had an OPS of .608 in July, .577 in August, and .501 in Sept/Oct. Had he been a contemporary Twin, he almost surely would've been sent back to the minors "for more seasoning". Then in 1979, he again got off to a hot start, but from May 1-19 he went 11-for-66 with little power and very few walks. The Brewers stuck with him, and he pulled out of it to have a fine season.

Paul Molitor is fortunate that he did not come up to a team with the management of the current Minnesota Twins.
