Minor Details: Games of July 6

A comeback walkoff by Orlando Arcia.  Excellent pitching by Stephen Gonsalves.  The Kernels win a see-saw game.  Good days by Brad Hartong and LaMonte Wade aren't enough for the E-Twins.  Only one hit for the GCL Twins.  A big inning carries the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 10, LEHIGH VALLEY 8 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Jose Martinez was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, his fifth.

Pitching star:  Michael Tonkin pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Chase d'Arnaud was 4-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Aaron Altherr was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his third.  Chris McGuiness was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

The game:  Martinez doubled in two in the first to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead, but Altherr's three-run homer in the third made it 3-2 IronPigs.  They still led 4-3 after five, but the Red Wings put together a three-run sixth to go up 6-4.  That was how things stood until the ninth, when McGuiness had a two-run double as part of a four-run inning that put the IronPigs ahead 8-6.  The Red Wings were not discouraged.  They opened the ninth with three singles that cut the lead to 8-7 and Arcia followed with a three-run walkoff homer.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  James Beresford was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Argenis Diaz was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.  Pat Dean pitched seven innings, giving up four runs on six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

CHATTANOOGA AT JACKSONVILLE

The game was suspended with the Lookouts leading 3-0 and still batting in the fifth.  Jason Wheeler has pitched four shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

FORT MYERS 9, ST. LUCIE 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Marcus Knecht was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer (his second) and a double, scoring twice.  Engelb Vielma was 4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Mitch Garver was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Stephen Gonsalves struck out seven in seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  Matt Summers pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ex-Twin Jairo Perez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Victor Cruzado was 1-for-3 with a double.

The game:  Vielma singled in a run in the first and one scored on a wild pitch in the third.  Knecht hit a three-run homer in the fifth to make it 5-0.  The Mets did not get a man past second base.  The Miracle added four more runs in the eighth.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Alex Swim was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BELOIT 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Tanner English was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Jared Wilson struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one walk.  Trevor Hildenberger struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Jose Brizuela was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Yairo Munoz was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  James Harris was 1-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  The Kernels scored two in the second, but the Snappers countered with two in the third.  English had a two-run double in the fourth that put the Kernels up 4-2.  In the top of the sixth, Max Kuhn had an RBI single and Munoz doubled home two to put the Snappers in the lead 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth, the Kernels came right back.  English singled in the tying run.  Nick Gordon's RBI single put the Kernels ahead, and Corcino doubled home an insurance run.  The Snappers did not get the tying run on base after that.

Of note:  Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Alex Real was 1-for-4 with a run.  Max Murphy was 0-for-3 with a run.  Sam Gibbons pitched six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

PRINCETON 5, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN PRINCETON

Batting stars:  Brad Hartong was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  Sean Miller was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Logan Lombana struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  C. K. Irby pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Peter Maris was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  David Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Soencer Moran struck out six in 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks.

The game:  Hartong and Wade each had a two-run double in the third inning, giving the Twins a 4-1 lead.  The Rays chipped away, getting one in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the margin to 3-2.  In the sixth, RBI singles by Maris and Landon Cray put the Rays in front 5-4.  The Twins loaded the bases with none out in the eighth, but a home-and-first double play and a line out ended the threat.

Of note:  Manuel Guzman was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Austin Diemer was 0-for-4.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Dereck Rodriguez pitched four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

GCL ORIOLES 1, GCL TWINS 0 AT ORIOLES

Batting stars:  Robert Molina was 1-for-3.  That was the only Twins hit.

Pitching stars:  Jose Martinez pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Chris Mazza struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Seamus Curran was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Jason Heinrich was 2-for-4.  Jeong-Hyeon Hoon pitched four perfect innings with three strikeouts.

The game:  A hit batsman and a pair of two-out singles produced a run for the Orioles in the first.  Molina singled with one out in the second.  Lean Marrero drew a two-out walk in the third.  The closest the Twins came to scoring was in the eighth, when Rowan Ebersohn drew a one-out walk, took second on a balk, and stole third.  The next two batters struck out, ending the threat.

Of note:  Luis Arraez was 0-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-3.  Lewin Diaz was 0-for-3.

DSL TWINS 6, DSL ORIOLES2 4 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Jhonathan Alvarez was 4-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Antonio Tovar was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Jose Ramirez pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Luis Gil pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.  Andriu Marin struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Pedro Flores was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Victor Grasso was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Oscar Cabrera struck out four in three innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and no walks.

The game:  Trailing 1-0, the Twins scored five runs in the third to take a solid lead.  Jean Carlos Arias had a two-run single-plus-error in the inning.  It was 6-2 after eight.  In the ninth, a two-run error cut the lead to 6-4 and put a man on third with one out, but the next two batters struck out to end the game.

Of note:  Edwin Franco was 0-for-4.  Arias was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
