Minor Details: Games of July 17

We'll get caught up as soon as we can, but it may take a few days.

Pat Dean's fine pitching goes for naught.  The Lookouts hang on.  Miracle bats and Mat Batts lead to an easy win.  Cedar Rapids gets only a Kernel of offense.  Andro Cutura's fine pitching also goes for naught.  A seven-run inning carries the GCL Twins.  Two four-run innings carry the DSL Twins.

LEHIGH VALLEY 1, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starJose Martinez was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starsPat Dean pitched eight innings, giving up one run on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.  Mark Hamburger pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Aaron Altherr was 2-for-4 with a run.  Blake Forsythe was 2-for-3.  Jesse Biddle struck out seven in seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk.

The game:  The game's lone run came in the fourth when Altherr singled, advanced to second on a walk, and scored on a Jordan Danks single.  The Red Wings came closest to scoring in the third, when they had men on first and third with two out, and the sixth, when they put men on first and second with one out.

Of noteJorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  James Beresford was 1-for-4.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3.

CHATTANOOGA 6, BILOXI 5 IN BILOXI

Batting starsHeiker Meneses was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Stuart Turner was 3-for-4 with a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Pitching starAlex Muren pitched two shutout innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Adam Weisenburger was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, driving in one.  Orlando Arcia was 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs.  Taylor Green was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

The game:  It was tied 3-3 after sixth.  In the seventh, Kennys Vargas delivered an RBI single to cap a two-run inning and give the Lookouts a 5-3 lead.  Walker II singled in an insurance run in the ninth and the Lookouts needed it, because in the bottom of the ninth, three walks and two errors made the score 6-5 and led to the bases being loaded with two out.  A ground out ended the game.

Of noteShannon Wilkerson was 1-for-5 with two RBIs.  Max Kepler was 2-for-5 with a run.  Vargas was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  D. J. Baxendale struck out seven in six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and one walk.

FORT MYERS 12, BREVARD COUNTY 1 IN BREVARD COUNTY

Batting starsAlex Swim was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Brett Doe was 4-for-6 with a run and two RBIs.  Chad Christensen was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching starsMat Batts pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Nick Burdi struck out two in a perfect inning.  Todd Van Steensel pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Omar Garcia was 2-for-4 with a run.  Rafael Neda was 1-for-3 with a double.

The gameSwim and Doe each had a two-run single in a five-run second that put the Miracle ahead 5-0.  It was never close after that.

Of noteZach Granite was 1-for-3 with three walks and two runs.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with three walks and three runs.

BURLINGTON 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starsEdgar Corcino was 3-for-4.  Pat Kelly was 2-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starsRandy Rosario pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Luke Bard struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Tim Arakawa was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, driving in two.  Wade Wass was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, scoring once.  Michael Bolaski pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The gameTanner English scored from second on a wild pitch to give the Kernels a 1-0 lead in the third.  Arakawa doubled in two in the fifth to put the Bees up 2-1.  Wass tripled and scored in the eighth to make it 3-1.  The Kernels had two hits in the fourth but did not threaten after that.

Of noteEnglish was 0-for-4 with a run.  Max Murphy was 0-for-4.

DANVILLE 2, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN DANVILLE (10 INNINGS)

Batting starsA. J. Murray was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Nelson Molina was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Rainis Silva was 2-for-2.

Pitching starsAndro Cutura pitched seven innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Anthony Mciver struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Leudys Baez was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Kurt Hoekstra was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Ryan Lawlor pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with no strikeouts.

The game:  The Braves scored once in the second on a double play.  The Twins tied it in the fourth on Murray's homer.  The Braves loaded the bases with two out in the eighth and the Twins did the same in the tenth, but there was no more scoring until the bottom of the tenth.  The Braves again loaded the bases with two out, but this time Baez singled to drive home the winning run.

Of noteManuel Guzman was 1-for-5.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-4.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-2.  Austin Diemer was 1-for-4.

GCL TWINS 8, GCL RED SOX 2 AT TWINS

Batting starsJermaine Palacios was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Roberto Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Brian Olson was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.

Pitching starsWilliams Ramirez pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Stephen Pryor pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk with one strikeout.  John Curtiss pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jerry Downs was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two runs.  Tyler Hill was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Nick Duron pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  Leading 1-0 after two, the Twins scored seven in the third to put the game out of reach early.  Palacios had a two-run triple in the inning, which included four walks, four wild pitches, and two errors.

Of noteLuis Arraez was 0-for-3 with two walks.  D. J. Hicks, on a rehab assignment, was 1-for-3 with a run.  Lewin Diaz was 1-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL ROCKIES 6 AT TWINS

Batting starsEmmanuel Morel was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Darling Cuesto was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Jean Carlos Arias was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Pitching starFredderi Soto pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Hidekel Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Manuel Melendez was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Ismael Viloria retired all eight batters he faced, striking out one.

The game:  The Rockies opened the game with a single, a walk, and four more singles, scoring four times before an out was recorded.  The Twins came back with four of their own in the bottom of the fourth, as Morel had a two-run single and Arias had a two-run single-plus-error.  The Rockies scored single runs in the sixth and eighth to go up 6-4, but the Twins had another four-run inning in the bottom of the eighth.  They opened the inning with four singles, but were also helped by a walk and an error.  The Rockies got a man on with two out in the ninth but could do no more.

Of noteGorge Munoz was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Jorge Parra was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Jose Ramirez pitched five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
