Minor Details: Games of July 19

A pair of three-run innings carry the Red Wings.  No Miracle in Fort Myers.  Edgar Corcino continues to hit in a losing effort for the Kernels.  An eight-run inning sinks the E-Twins.

ROCHESTER 6, LEHIGH VALLEY 2 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsCarlos Paulino was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Argenis Diaz was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Eric Farris was 2-for-4 with two runs.

Pitching starsGreg Peavey pitched six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Logan Darnell pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Chris McGuiness was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.  Russ Canzler was 2-for-4 with a double.  Devin Lohman was 1-for-2 with a double.

The game:  McGuiness hit a two-run homer in the second to put the IronPigs up 2-0.  It held until the fifth, when Diaz had a two-run double as part of a three-run inning that gave the Red Wings a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh, Paulino had a two-run double as part of another three-run inning that put the Red Wings in control of the game.

Of noteJorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk.  James Beresford was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Chris Herrmann was 0-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3 with a walk.

JUPITER 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsMitch Garver was 1-for-4 with a home run.  T. J. White was 2-for-4.  Alex Swim was 1-for-1 with a double.

Pitching starsStephen Gonsalves pitched five innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Brian Gilbert pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Harold Riggins was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Justin Bohn was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Chipper Smith pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Avery Romero singled in a run in the first for the Hammerheads, but the Miracle scored without a hit in the fourth to tie it 1-1.  Riggins homered in the sixth and the Hammerheads scored again in the seventh to make it 3-1.  Garver homered in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2.  Swim led off the ninth with a pinch-hit double and went to third on a bunt, but the last two Miracle batters struck out.

Of noteZach Granite was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Brett Doe was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

QUAD CITIES 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN QUAD CITIES

Batting starsEdgar Corcino was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Pat Kelly was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.  Tyler Kuresa was 1-for-3 with a run.

Pitching starLuke Westphal pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Alex Bregman was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Kristian Trompiz was 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs.  David Paulino struck out seven in seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks.

The game:  The River Bandits scored once without a hit in the second and Trompiz singled and scored in the sixth for a 2-0 lead.  The Kernels got on the board in the eighth on a single, two walks, and a wild pitch, but they had men on second and third with one out and could do no more.  In the bottom of the eighth, the River Bandits put together a two-out rally, getting two singles, a walk, and a bases-clearing double by Nick Tanielu to put the game out of reach.

Of noteTanner English was 1-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4.  Zack Larson was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Austin Diemer, making his Class A debut, was 0-for-2 with a walk.

BURLINGTON 13, ELIZABETHTON 3 IN BURLINGTON

Batting starsAmuarys Minier was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Daniel Kihle was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching starCody Stashak pitched six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Brandon Dulin was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth), a triple, and a walk, scoring three times.  Riley King was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks, scoring twice.  Colton Frabasilio was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  It was actually close most of the way.  Each team scored once in the second and once in the sixth, leaving the score tied 2-2.  Kamran Young's single-plus-error gave the Twins a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh.  In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Royals put together an eight-run inning.  Jose Martinez had a two-run double, but there were also two walks, two errors, and a hit batsman.  King hit a three-run homer in the eighth just to put some icing on the cake.

Of noteManuel Guzman was 2-for-5.  Zander Weil, making his professional debut, was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Chris Paul, making his professional debut, was 0-for-4.
