Minor Details: Games of July 31

Reynaldo Rodriguez hits his twelfth homer.  The Lookouts lose late.  The Miracle fall back early.  Silent bats for the Kernels.  The E-Twins give up runs early and late.  A split for the GCL Twins.  A big win for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 8, SYRACUSE 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Danny Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a home run (his twelfth) and two runs.  Chris Herrmann was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Mark Hamburger pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.  Aaron Thompson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Josh Johnson was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Blake Treinen struck out three in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks.

The game:  Ortiz doubled in two in the first and Herrmann homered in the second to give the Red Wings a 3-0 lead.  The Chiefs scored two in the top of the third, but the Red Wings came back with three in the bottom half to take control of the game.

Of note:  Xavier Avery was 0-for-5.  James Beresford was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Taylor Rogers struck out eight in six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks.

PENSACOLA 4, CHATTANOOGA 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.  Shannon Wilkerson was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Greg Peavey pitched 6.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  D. J. Johnson retired all five men he faced.

Opposition stars:  Juan Duran was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Cody Reed pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

The game:  The Lookouts took a 1-0 lead in the first and made it stand up until the seventh, when the Blue Wahoos took a 2-1 lead.  Duran had a two-run single in the eighth to make it 4-1.  After the first, the closest the Twins came was when Kepler hit a one-out triple in the sixth.

Of note:  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.

DAYTONA 8, FORT MYERS 1 IN DAYTONA

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a double.  T. J. White was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Pitching star:  Zach Jones retired all five men he faced, striking out three of them.

Opposition stars:  Sebastian Elizalde was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Joe Hudson was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Jackson Stephens pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Four singles led to three Tortugas runs in the third.  Hudson hit a two-run homer in a four-run sixth that made it 7-0 and put the game out of reach.  The lone Miracle run came in the seventh.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-4.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-3.  Marcus Knecht was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Kohl Stewart pitched 5.1 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout.

KANE COUNTY 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN KANE COUNTY

Batting stars:  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4.  Brett Doe was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Elvin Soto was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Ryan Gebhardt was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Josh Taylor struck out thirteen in a complete game, allowing one run on nine hits and no walks, throwing 103 pitches.

The game:  Larson singled in a run in the first.  The Cougars took over after that.  Joe Munoz doubled in a run and later scored on a balk to make it 2-1 after two.  The Cougars added two more in the fourth and one in the eighth.  The only Kernel threat after the first came in the fifth, when Tanner English led off with a double.  He got to third but was stranded there.

Of note:  English was 1-for-4 with a double.  Larson was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Randy Rosario pitched six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

BURLINGTON 12, ELIZABETHTON 6 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Amaurys Minier was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Brian Bien was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Colton Frabasilio was 3-for-5 with a home run.  Nolan Watson pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Leading 4-1, the Royals scored three in the fifth to take what appeared to be a commanding 7-1 lead.  The Twins fought their way back into it, with Palacios hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth and singling home a run in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-5.  The Royals came back to score two in the eighth and three in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-5.  Chris Paul was 0-for-4.  Cody Stashak pitched three innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

GCL RED SOX 1, GCL TWINS 0 AT TWINS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Ruar Verkerk was 1-for-3.  It was the only hit the Twins had.

Pitching stars:  Williams Ramirez struck out seven in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks.  Johan Quezada struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Hill was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Gerson Bautista pitched four shutout innings, allowing no hits and four walks with three strikeouts.  Nick Duron struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  The game's lone run came in the fifth, when Hill led off with a double and scored on a single by Isaias Lucena.  The Twins did not get a baserunner until the fourth and their lone hit came with two out in the seventh and last inning.

Of note:  Luis Martinez was 0-for-3.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-1 with a walk.  Lewin Diaz was 0-for-3.

GCL TWINS 10, GCL RED SOX 2 AT RED SOX (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Kolton Kendrick was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Ariel Montesino was 0-for-2 with two walks and three runs.

Pitching stars:  Jose Martinez pitched five innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  John Curtiss pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Raiwinson Lameda was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Yoman Valentin was 1-for-3 with a run.

The game:  The Twins took advantage of four consecutive walks in the first inning, following them with a couple of singles to take a 3-0 lead.  They were leading 4-1 after three, but in the fourth a couple more walks and an error made it 6-1 and put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Lewin Diaz was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Only two batters in the Twins lineup had batting averages of over .200, and only one was higher than .211.

DSL TWINS 12, DSL ROJOS 4 AT ROJOS

Batting stars:  Jean Carlos Arias was 3-for-6 with two doubles, scoring three times and driving in three.  Darling Cuesto was 4-for-4 with three RBIs.  Francisco Hernandez was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Juan Herrera struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Pabel Manzanero was 3-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Melbin Berroa was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Leading 3-1 through four, the Twins scored three in the fifth on one hit to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 2-for-4 with two walks and two runs.  Jorge Parra was 0-for-3 with three walks and a run.
