Minor Details: Games of August 2

Pat Dean has an excellent game.  The Lookouts are out-hit by three and win by six.  The MIracle is shut out twice.  A big inning costs the Kernels.  A big game for LaMonte Wade.

ROCHESTER 6, SYRACUSE 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Xavier Avery was 1-for-4 with a grand slam, his second homer.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching star:  Pat Dean struck out ten in a complete game shutout, giving up four hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  None.

The game:  A bases loaded walk and Avery's grand slam made it 5-0 after three innings.  The only other run came on Beresford's RBI single in the sixth.  The Chiefs did not get a hit until the fourth.  That was the only inning in which they got a man as far as second base.

Of note:  Danny Santana was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-3.

CHATTANOOGA 8, JACKSON 2 IN JACKSON

Batting stars:  Shannon Wilkerson was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jairo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.

Pitching star:  Brett Lee pitched six shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Aderlin Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Jaban Henry was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Daniel Paolini was 2-for-4.

The game:  The Lookouts scored two in the sixth without a hit to take a 3-0 lead.  They added three more in the seventh on two hits and two errors to put the game out of reach.  The Generals out-hit the Lookouts 9-6.

Of note:  Max Kepler was 0-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-2 with three walks.  D. J. Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

DAYTONA 3, FORT MYERS 0 IN DAYTONA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Pitching star:  Aaron Slegers pitched a six inning complete game, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Sebastian Elizalde was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Chad Wallach was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Nick Routt pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  All the runs were scored in the first inning.  Elizalde doubled home one and Wallach doubled home two.  The Miracle put a man on third with two out in the first and again in the third.  At one point, twelve consecutive Miracle batters were retired.

Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-3.  Alex Swim was 0-for-3.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-2 with a walk.

DAYTONA 1, FORT MYERS 0 IN DAYTONA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.  Zach Granite was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Ryan Eades pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Corey Williams pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Alex Blandino was 2-for-3 with a double.  Brian O'Grady was 0-for-0 with three walks.  Carlos Gonzalez struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing no hits and no walks.

The game:  The game's lone run scored in the bottom of the seventh when Ronald Bueno doubled, Wendell Soto singled, and Junior Felix Arias singled in the winning run.  The Miracle did not get a man past second base.

Of note:  Alex Swim was 0-for-3.  Marcus Knecht was 0-for-3.

KANE COUNTY 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN KANE COUNTY

Batting stars:  Brian Navaretto was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Brett Doe was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Luke Westphal struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Cameron Booser pitched 1.1 scoreless innings despite giving up two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Marty Herum was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Elvin Soto was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Nick Baker pitched three shutout innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  A hit batsman and four singles plated three Kernel runs in the second inning, giving them a 3-0 lead.  They were still up 3-1 after six, but in the seventh the Cougars went single, double, single, double, single to score four times and take a 5-3 advantage.  Corcino homered in the eighth to make it 5-4.  Navaretto hit a one-out double in the ninth but did not advance past second base.

Of note:  Rafael P. Valera was 0-for-5 with an RBI.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4.  Zack Larson was 0-for-3 with a run.

ELIZABETHTON 13, BURLINGTON 6 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  LaMonte Wade was 3-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in three.  Alex Perez was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times and driving in one.  Chris Paul was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.

Pitching star:  Logan Lambana pitched 3.1 innings, giving up a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Brandon Thomasson was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in three.  Xavier Fernandez was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Angelo Castellano was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The game:  Thomasson hit a two-run double in a four-run Royals first, but then the Twins took over.  Paul hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to make it 4-2.  Two errors led to a five-run second that put the Twins in the lead 7-4.  The Twins then got one in the fourth, two in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take a commanding lead.

Of note:  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in three.  Brian Olson was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk, scoring twice.  Oneismo Hernandez pitched four innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
