  1. I was offered a free upgrade, but my computer is oooooold and sloooooooow. Not sure if she could handle it, though I've read a bit that suggests it's actually pretty decent hog.

    1. I'm definitely doing for my wife's laptop (and thanks for reminding me you guys, I just turned it on to see that the upgrade is ready and I need to get to backing everything up, just in case) which is less than a year old and running Windows 8. My laptop on Windows 7 is probably going to stay that way though, for the reasons you've mentioned.

I've had a Windows phone for a bit over a month now, and I hope whoever decided that Windows 8's design was good for mobile and computer got a stern talking to. It's slick and fast on my phone. That said, I'm more excited for the hopefully upcoming mobile update because rumor has it that Android/iPhone type apps will be easier to create.

      1. installed a couple of weeks ago on the home machine (HP Pavilion with the 2.5 GHz i-5 core). No noticeable problems. I don't like having to hunt for things in the redesigned interface, but other than that...meh. Hopefully, the under-the-hood stuff is improved enough that I will eventually have cause to be happy.

            1. My understanding is Windows 10 has the same requirements as 7. Although, I haven't run Windows on my computers in ten years so what do I know.

    2. Both my four year old iPhone & my five year old MacBook Pro run the most current releases of their respective operating systems as well as the upcoming new releases. Silly me, falling for Apple's marketing & industrial design.

      1. According to the system requirements handed down by their respective creators, Windows 10 can run on older hardware than OS X 10.10. The biggest limiting factor appears to be memory. Both have the same limit (2 GB for 64 bit) and Windows 10 reportedly performs not that great at that amount. I would expect Yosemite is similar.

    1. Why are there so few weekend home games left on the schedule??? I promised the jalapeño he and I would go to another game together before the end of the season . . .

(Tomorrow is out because of a b-day party.)

  2. Additional fan safety at the ballpark? How about laser mounted weapons that intercept the (ball/bat/cup) prior to reaching the stands? Robo-umps first though, please.

    1. I'm not necessarily opposed to additional safety measures, but I really dislike the crisis mentality expressed by some in the media. There's no greater danger of getting hit by a foul ball now than there was last year or the year before that or the year before that. I'm willing to consider suggestions, but let's not act like we Must Act Right Now!!!!!

  3. Sano and Mauer back in the lineup. Buxton moved down to 9th. Dozier leading off, Escobar batting second. Since Santana was demoted, Escobar is batting .281/.346/.535.

  4. Dr. Chop and I, and several close friends, almost died last night when a drunk driver smashed into two cars parked on the street right as we stood around the entrance to a bar. The guy driving was going so fast that he hurled over a third and fourth car and broke a utility pole in half. The transformer on top of the utility pole exploded upon impact, and the power lines actually fried themselves in the streets melting the asphalt. We were showered with glass and flying debris, but were unharmed otherwise. The dude standing next to me was hit in the leg by a detached wheel and hub that we think came off the truck driven by the drink driver. He collapsed under me, and was clearly hurt pretty badly. We dragged him to safety, and shortly after he was attended to by a nurse and doctor that had been hanging out in the bar.

None of this was covered by the local news. I'm guessing because the dude lived and nobody was critically wounded, but the power outage affected nearly 2000 people. Yeah, I'm glad that we're still alive.

    1. Holy smokes, meat. That's much too close a call. Glad you & Dr. Chop are still with us.

    2. Holy good Lord! Really happy to hear nobody was hurt, though part of me wishes drunk driver dude would've at least lost a finger or a toe or some such.

  5. I saw bits of the World Championships while at the gym today.
    1. Mo Farah is awesome.
    2. World record in the decathalon.
    3. Usain effing Bolt.
