  1. Standings have magic numbers*! Hurrah for pennant races!

*Only KC at this point...which isn't much of a race...but that's beside the point.

  2. Twins are
1 win away from matching last year's win total.
2 wins away from guaranteeing their best season since 2010.
4 wins away from preventing the fifth 90-loss season in a row.
13 wins away from a winning season.

      1. Then again, we used to have a banner around here that used to ask "is it 2014 yet?" so you could say it's a year late.

    1. 28 wins away from bettering their best Gardy-era record.
34 wins away from their best record ever.*

      *well, that bird has flown.

  3. I figured awhile ago that the Twins were going to fall apart. I saw foreboding clouds in the air, but I didn't realize they were signaling a Sanostorm.

It's a stretch, I'll admit to go Sanostorm->Snowstorm->Sandstorm, but I feel this would be really fun to crank while he's rounding the bases and have the stadium go wild.

  4. Just as I predicted, Tom Brady beat the NFL, will start week 1. If you recall, my prediction was based on nothing other than Lester Munson saying he didn't have a shot or didn't have much of a shot.

      1. 1) Eliminate University of Minnesota sports
        2) Move Vikings into TCF permanently
        3) Stop construction on the Monstrosity and tear down what they've already put up
        4) Do literally anything else with that space

        Wins all around.

        1. 4b. Extend the prospective park in that area to include the Metrodome site. Minneapolis will have its own Central Eastern Park!

        2. 3) Stop construction on the Monstrosity and tear down what they've already put up

or tear the roof off of it and give it to the soccer team

  5. WGOM FFB REMINDER - B LEAGUE

Draft is Sunday night at 9pm. I should hopefully be there. Still need one more team though (someone's missing, but I don't remember who; it was a weird email).

  6. Looking at the rest of the year (and counting our current CWS series) we have 10 series remaining. 8 of those are against division rivals. 8 of those are against teams behind us in the division and/or wild card standings. Only 1 team left to play has a better record, Kansas City, and we have two series left with them. As of yesterday, the Twins were looking at a 21% chance of making the playoffs (according to the MLB playoff predictor), up from 16% a week ago.

    1. And one of those KC series is the last series of the year, when hopefully they will have clinched and don't care anymore. Wouldn't be the first time they "help" us into the playoffs.

  7. I have two sets of glasses - a work pair and a home pair. Only I wore my work pair home yesterday and forgot them. So today I have have two home pairs and zero work pairs. Lots of squinting, I'm gonna have such a headache.

  8. Question for the wisdom of the crowd.

I am meeting friends at Surly then going to the Gopher game. Should I leave my car around Surly and take light rail each way? Surly closes at 11 so I am worried about getting towed. Any street parking around there? Is neighborhood decent?

    1. Surly is in a little industrial park. There's a bit of street parking around here, but it fills up really quickly.

If you're able to park here, then I wouldn't even bother with the green line. Just use the UM Transitway. It's not even a mile walk.

    2. First you will walk from Surly to game.

Parking near Surly will be Super tough, especially on a week night plus State Fair. I would park downtown or at Fort Snelling and take LRT to Surly. You be hard pressed to find parking near Surly.

  9. Imagine how good the Gophers would be if they had a real quarterback, which is Gophers football the last 50 years. When they have a defense and/or running game, they have no quarterback. When they have a quarterback, they have no defense or running game.

  10. Even so, the Gophers lost by 7 to the No. 2 team in the country despite fumbling inside their own 20 to set up a TCU TD and fumbling the ball into the end zone to prevent their own TD. They also dropped a potential Pick 6.

    1. Yeah, once that fumble by the RB happened, I knew a win was not in the cards. But a good showing.

    2. The Gophers did have a couple bad fumbles but they also got two takeaways.

It came down to passing accuracy.
