Minor Details: Games of September 12

The Lookouts lose in extras despite the efforts of Jason Wheeler and Jorge Polanco.  Keaton Steele and Max Murphy lead the Kernels to a game one win.

MONTGOMERY 6, CHATTANOOGA 5 IN CHATTANOOGA (11 INNINGS)--FIRST ROUND, GAME TWO--MAKEUP FROM SEPTEMBER 11

Batting stars:  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs.  D. J. Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Travis Harrison was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Jason Wheeler pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Dayron Verona was 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI.  Juniel Querecuto was 1-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs.  Matt Lollis struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing two walks.

The game:  Hicks hit a two-run single in a three-run first that put the Lookouts up 3-0.  It looked for a while like that might be enough, as the Lookouts led 3-1 after six.  Querecuto hit a two-run single in the seventh, however, and we went to extra innings.  Daniel Robertson hit a two-run triple in the top of the tenth to put the Biscuits up 5-3, but Polanco hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the tenth to tie it 5-5.  In the eleventh, however, two walks, a bunt, and Verona's RBI single put the Biscuits ahead 6-5, and this time Chattanooga could not come back.

Of note:  Shannon Wilkerson was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-5 with a double.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, PEORIA 2 IN PEORIA--SEMI-FINALS, GAME ONE

Batting stars:  Max Murphy was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Brian Navaretto was 1-for-4 with a double.

Pitching star:  Keaton Steele struck out nine in eight innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Kenny Peoples-Walls was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run.  Darren Seferina was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Steven Sabatino retired all four men he faced, striking out two.

The game:  Each team scored once in the first.  It stayed 1-1 until the seventh, when Murphy hit a two-run homer to put the Kernels up 3-1.  In the ninth, Peoples-Walls hit a leadoff triple and Seferina followed with an RBI single, but Nick Anderson struck out the next three batters to end the game.

Of note:  Rafael P. Valera was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4.  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 with a double.  T. J. White was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Chris Paul was 0-for-3 with a run.
